2024 Transfer Portal news

He averaged only 6 points and 5 rebounds as a high school Senior?....I might be able to do that now lol

Yes, a little unusual. There is very little info about him anywhere , but a couple recruiting sites had him rated as a 3-star recruit.
I'm not sure I've seen a kid rated so high who averaged just 6 ppg his senior year.
The bio on the Old Miss website says this-
"Rated as a three-star prospect by ESPN, 247sports.com, and Rivals … Ranked the No. 147[SUP]th[/SUP] player in the nation by Rivals …Averaged six points and five rebounds per game as a senior while shooting 40% from three-point range."

Here is a highlight video from his junior season. He appears to be thin and athletic, but nearly every highlight on his video is a blocked shot or other defensive play. He must be a bit offensively challenged. - https://www.hudl.com/video/3/13905793/61cead1fb3c97406806753b4

Yeah he looks athletic and coordinated...says he's like a 3 time state champ....maybe the rest of the team did all the scoring.

Tommy, the 6 points wouldn't be a problem. The rebounds could get iffy......then I'm making no promises about anything defensively.

I will need an oxygen mask and EMT's courtside at each game.

I think with an oxygen tank and your ability to block out, the boards would be a piece of cake for you, bro.

Just a FWIW...
Trey Pettigrew has TWO younger brothers that are both highly rated recruits...
both will be at Bolingbrook HS next year
(prob safe to say they won't be at Bradley)

JT Pettigrew, 6-7 high scoring wing, Class of 2025 (will be a senior this upcoming year) - multiple offers already

Brady Pettigrew will be just a freshman, 6-3 guard who is cited as the #1 guard prospect in the state of IL, rated (supposedly) 5-STAR -

Pettigrew brothers....You never know....if the rules change by next year, BU can use a piece of there 20 million to lure on or both of them!!!! Why not....Dream Big!!!! Just having some fun!

UIC has added a couple transfers-

Jordan Mason- 6'4" sophomore guard from Texas State. He averaged 12.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg, and 2.6 apg, but his shooting percentages were not very good. He shot 38.5% overall and 29.5% from three. He has 2 years of eligibility left.

Stats- https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5106453/jordan-mason

Tyem Freeman- 6'5" grad-transfer guard from Kent State. He averaged 5.6 ppg, 2.0 rpg, and 0.6 apg. He shot 46.4% from three in limited action, but his D1 career shooting percentage from three is 37.0%. He has one season of eligibility left.

Trey Pettigrew to Eastern Michigan

Just an interesting tidbit that had not been previously mentioned. It was speculated last season that Pettigrew had left Bradley
and transferred somewhere else for the 2nd semester, since he did not appear to be enrolled at Bradley and never entered the
portal. This has apparently now been confirmed with the news release of Pettigrew's signing at EMU
"Pettigrew started the 2023-24 campaign at Bradley University before ultimately redshirting at Salt Lake Community College"

One other bit of information that's not exactly related to the transfer portal...
Tonight at midnight is the deadline for college players who put their names into the 2024 NBA Draft to withdraw if they wish to retain college eligibility.
There are a bunch of such players who are expected to withdraw, but have not done so yet.
The only MVC player, I believe, who was among that group was Evansville's Ben Humrichous, but he just withdrew and will transfer and play at Illinois for the 2024-25 season. - https://x.com/JonRothstein/status/1795833247999623527

Tucker DeVries was reportedly planning to enter the NBA Draft, but when his father got the West Virginia job, he opted instead to transfer to West Virginia. -

Here is a partial list of players in the draft who could still pull out - https://x.com/jeffborzello/status/1795854536713580718

Ok if they withdraw do they have to go back to their original school or can they transfer to another school even though the Transfer Portal is closed?

They would have had to enter the portal before May 1 (the last date the portal was open) if they wanted to transfer. If they did not enter the portal by May 1, their only college option if they withdrew from the draft is to return to the same school they played for.

Though they would be ineligible for the NBA draft if they withdraw, they could still sign as a free agent with an NBA team, or a NBA Summer League deal, or G-League deal if they didn't want to return to college.

Ok Thanks. Interesting to know

Here is an interesting case.... 6'0" sophomore walk-on guard J.Z. Zaher of Bowling Green put his name into the NBA Draft, and tonight announces he is staying in the draft. - https://x.com/JonRothstein/status/1795934620321452436

J.Z. Zaher averaged only 4.4 points his senior year in high school and received no college offers. He spent his freshman season as a walk-on at Eastern Michigan (2022-23) and played one minute each in 2 games. He played the final minute in Eastern Michigan's game at Bradley when BU clobbered EMU 89-61 and EMU emptied their bench for the final minute.
Box score- https://bradleybraves.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2022-23/eastern-michigan/boxscore/21306
He did not score in either game he played in that season.
He transferred to Bowling Green this past season (2023-24), and played in 7 games as a walk-on. He averaged 4 minutes per game, and he totaled 5 points for the season on 1-8 (12.5%) shooting and 2-5 (40%) on free throws.

What are his chances of getting drafted?

Here was an MVC transfer from a few days ago- https://x.com/WyattWheeler_NL/status/1798481818968084959

Missouri State gets Chase Martin, a transfer from Purdue. He is the son of new Missouri State head coach Cuonzo Martin.
Chase Martin is a 6'2" senior guard who didn't play much in his 4 years at Purdue. He averaged under 2 minutes per game for his career, and scored a total of 6 points in 4 years. He has one season left for his Covid year.

Final transfer portal numbers 2024

of the 2,035 DI players entering the portal, 22% still have not found a school to enroll & play at

of 1,020 D2 players entering the portal, 61% are left hanging- no landing spot.

Options for them still include waiting it out for a DI offer, or DII, DIII, NAIA or one of the other smaller association schools( ACCA, NCCAA), or juco if eligible. I have seen posts & releases by smaller schools that still have openings or need players, but many do not offer full scholarships.

overall
3,550 entered, 1,990 transferred & enrolled -
35% still uncommitted
