2023 MVC Tournament - 8 MVC Teams NOW PLAY ON THURSDAY

With the 2023 MVC Tournament now just 4 weeks away. Does everyone realize that * 8 MVC Teams " are playing in the dreaded Thursday first round? In the past every MVC team did everything that they could to finish in the top 6. That is no longer true starting this year. What Bradley and Northern Iowa did in 2019 will likely be very unlikely now. Where the 5th seed (Bradley) played the 6th seed (Northern Iowa) in the MVC Tournament Championship. Yes Valpo did it in 2020 - when they were a 9th seed - but by the final game Valpo was "gased" and Bradley easily took the lead in the second half and won. Comments - thank you.

Already got my room booked and honestly, looking forward to the extra Thursday games (and still hoping we aren't in one of them).

Definitely going to be an interesting change. Finishing in the top 4 just became extremely important. Really don't want to end up in the dreaded 5th position like BU has been in so many times over the past couple of decades. Top 4 is a must to get the bye, and the tournament winner is almost guaranteed to be in the top 4, let alone both teams playing on Sunday.

Agree that getting a top 4 is critical. BU has better depth than most if not all other teams but we expend so much energy on defense that having to play 4 games in 4 days would be a killer. Has anyone seen an official summary of the tiebreakers this year. We all seem to assume they will be the same as in years past but with the unbalanced schedule I could envision changes- for instance if two teams tie but only played each other once the team that got the game at home would have an advantage (that scenario does not hurt BU since we won at In State but could impact others).

Hey HB,

Here's what the MVC website has listed for tiebreak rules:

Tommy-Thanks. You did a better job searching the site than I did-I couldn’t find it. Still feels like there is an opportunity for someone to get the shaft depending on who they played once and where they played them. Just like our record in all likelihood gets hurt by only playing Evansville once. As I say I hate 5he unbalanced schedule.
