2022 MVC Awards Predictions

Hi all,

Here are my takes on who I'd name for the awards:

Individual

Larry Bird POY
Isiaih Mosley (MSU) (Probably Green or Williamson actually wins it but Mosley was by the far the most impressive player I watched)

Newcomer
Terry Roberts (BU) - This seems inevitable - even the road broadcasters have said he's a shoo in for this most of the season even though he lost steam down the stretch.

Freshman
Micah Thomas (InSU) - Maybe Devries gets this but I just feel like they like to space out the awards and this gives a chance for Indiana State to get some love. Solid player across the board.

Defensive
Lucas Williamson (LUC) - Since I don't have Williamson getting POY, this is their way to honor him again with back-to-back awards.

6th man
Passing here - I know teams dealt with injuries, COVID, etc., so who were truly 6th men makes this pretty complicated. Up for ideas here ...

Coach
Jacobsen (UNI) - I think they have the least talent of the top 5 teams and still managed to win the title. Arguably the best scorer is on their team, but the rest of the roster is just loaded with solid if not unspectacular talent.

Team Awards

1st team

Mosley (MSU)
Green (UNI)
Williamson (LUC)
Reeves (IlSU)
Damask (SIU)

2nd team
Mast (BU)
Sturtz (DU)
Prim (MSU)
Devries (DU) (I think Sturtz is a more complete player but I wouldn't be surprised to see them both here)
Roberts (BU) (I think there's a good chance Terry only makes third team because of his injuries slowing his late season but struggling to see who to bump ahead of him.)

3rd team
Carter (UNI)
Norris (LUC)
Jones (SIU)
Henry (InSU)
Krikke (Valpo)

(Will have to think about defensive and freshmen team, but wanted to start with the big categories)

POY- I also think Isiaih Mosley is the POY, but there is a good chance AJ Green gets it, since some may not want to admit they were wrong with their preseason POY picks.
Newcomer- 100% Terry Roberts
Freshman- Tucker DeVries- probably unanimous - there are no other freshmen in the top 40 scorers (Micah Thomas is not a freshman. He played last season at a Florida juco).
Defensive- Lucas Williamson- He may not really be the best defender, but he's got the reputation
6th man- Bowen Born- I'm guessing it'll go to someone from the top team even though there are other non-starters who produce more (like Ryan Schwieger, Jaylen Minnett, Chris Knight, etc.)
Coach- Jacobsen- UNI has only had 1 winning season in the previous 5 years, and they were picked 3rd in the preseason poll. But who else deserves it?

1st team- Mosley (MSU), Green (UNI), Prim (MSU), Williamson (LU), Reeves (ILSU)
2nd team- Domask (SIU), Carter (UNI), Roberts (BU), Mast (BU) Jones (SIU)
3rd team- DeVries (DU), Krikke (VU), Norris (LU), Sturtz (DU), Henry (InSU) or Cooper Neese (InSU)

I'll only guess a couple specialty teams since BU players are shoe-ins-
All-Freshman - Connor Hickman (BU), Tucker DeVries (DU), Lu'Cye Patterson (MSU), Howard Fleming (ILSU), Blake Sisley (UE)
All-Newcomer- Terry Roberts, Malevy Leons (BU), Tucker DeVries (DU), Cameron Henry (InSU), Ben Coupet (SIU)

POY is a toss up between Mosley and Green. It wouldn't surprise me for AJ to get it because of being a senior.
I would fully agree on freshman, newcomer and 6th man of the year.
As for first team I would put Mast of Prim but, again, Prim will probably get the nod because of being a super senior.
Looking at your list we are looking at 4 Braves receiving end of year awards.

BW has to be considered for the Coach of the Year. With the amount of player turnover and considering how low most people had us ranked to start the season, I'd say we did pretty well by beating Drake twice and Loyola once. All the other teams were getting far more props that we were before the season.

I kind of think they messed these up. Mosley is the POY in my opinion.. not Green. Green is pretty one dimensional. The league leading scorer is not a first team performer?? To put him there I would probably move Roberts to the second team (great that Roberts got first team though). Mast, the league leader in rebounds plus everything else he does on the court certainly is deserving of the 2nd team. Lance Jones with SIU doesn't make the top 15 players? And completely agree Leons should be on the all newcomer team. I am not sure how that is even up for discussion.
