The Beaumont Express has pubished a list of 54 applicants for the Lamar head coaching job-
http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/d...plicants-for-men-s-basketball-job-1313369.php

This is pretty bizarre- I have never seen a college release their entire list of applicants.
Has anyone ever seen a more pathetic list of candidates?
Most of these names I have never heard of before, including many who are not even working as coaches, or who have never coached, some who are coaching at low levels, and some who have no college experience, and one as young as 22 years of age.

Rumors-
Wyoming close to hiring Larry Shyatt (Florida assistant)

Missouri targeting their top 3- Shaka Smart (VCU), Chris Mooney (Richmond), Doug Wojcic (Tulsa)

Towson has targeted 3 candidates- UNC assistant Jarrod Haase, Xavier assistant Pat Kelsey, and Pitt assistant Pat Skerry.

from what ive heard (and take it with extreme grain of salt because i dont know where he heard it), smart and ncsu is going to be a likely match. the person i talked to coaches a pretty highly rated aau program so he may be privy to information that wasnt just made up on the net

mooney just signed a long extension a few days ago.

Strong rumor that Towson will step up with $400,000/year and hire Dalonte Hill, a top assistant at Kansas State, and one of the highest paid assistants in the country. He is responsible for recruiting Michael Beasley, among others.

Article about UC-Davis head coach Gary Stewart stepping down. He will remain at UC-Davis is another capacity with the Atletic Department. Stewart is the only coach UC-Davis has had since they became Division I.

http://www.sacbee.com/2011/03/31/3516448/uc-davis-seeks-new-mens-basketball.html#

UC-Davis Athletic Director Greg Warzecka said this about the search for a new head coach-
"Every school is a little bit different. We need to be able to recruit highly talented students academically who can come here and be successful and graduate.
"Also a coach that's got significant experience in developing young men to be successful at a very high level in Division I athletics.
"The bottom line sometimes is just finding the right fit."

Can anyone think of a candidate that fits those criteria that might be a good fit at UC-Davis?

And here are a couple more interesting articles-

This brilliant writer has seized upon what Utah needs in their next coach-

What Utes need most is a coach who consistently wins games
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/...t-is-a-coach-who-consistently-wins-games.html
Really? Why don't all schools just hire only coaches that are going to consistently win? If they did, we would never see any losing programs. :)

Tennessee goes gonzo for Cuonzo ??” and prepares to test the adage that middling players make great coaches

No word yet on new Wyoming men's basketball coach
http://www.greenwichtime.com/sports...ew-Wyoming-men-s-basketball-coach-1316464.php
why bother writing an article telling us they have nothing to tell us?http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsext...ectid=92&articleid=20110331_92_0_NORMAN723114

I noticed Alvin Brooks name among the applicants for the Lamar opening.

He is one of the few on the list that seems like a reasonable candidate. Most of the others on the list seem not even to be as good of candidate as Brooks, which is what surprises me. I don't see why a lot of other D1 assistants wouldn't want their name out there as a candidate for a D1 job, even if they aren't very interested in getting the job. It never hurts to apply. Yet the list has very few good candidates.

Here is one of the candidates- Indrek Kongats- a fishing guide from upstate New York, who also is a competetive fisherman.
It appears he played some club basketball while growing up in Canada, but I can't find any evidence he has ever coached.

The Alvin Brooks who is on the list of possible candidates at Lamar is NOT the Alvin Brooks most Bradley fans know..

That is the Houston assistant coach Alvin Brooks, Jr. who is the father of Alvin Brooks III the ex-Bradley assistant

There are rumors that North Carolina State is about to announce a hire, but....
I really doubt this...........as many think they'll wait and try to go after either Shaka Smart or Gregg Marshall

Other rumors -- Utah focusing on St. Mary's Randy Bennett, Towson after Dalonte Hill, Wyoming stalling out and getting turned down

Updated again -- open positions in red...

***Ex-ISU head coach Tom Richardson is a finalist for the Loyola job!!**
