I like Hewitt as a person but I was never a fan of his X and Os and let's face it besides finding diamonds in the rough and a great salesman the next most important thing for a mid-major coach is the ability to just flat out coach.

I'd call getting your face on TV during the NCAA Tournament a pretty good recruiting tool.
 
seeing Dakich, Fraschilla, Lavin, etc...on TV a bunch shows they usually employ ex-coaches.....
this gig might actually interfere with getting out on the road and recruiting

And here is an interesting twist- Western Kentucky which was rumored to be considering firing their coach Ken McDonald, has instead decided to keep him, but cut his pay from $350,000 to $250,000 per year.-

That should make their fans happy. Many wanted a coaching change. But the AD has basically told them tough luck, we are keeping our coach who had the worst record in a decade, but the good news is we are saving a bunch of money!
 
Another interesting rumor- Arkansas is said to be talking to Billy Gillispie, But they are also supposedly interested in Tubby Smith, who is currently the coach at Minnesota.

University of New Mexico Associate Coach Craig Neal is rumored to be a likely candidate for the Georgia Tech job now that they have fired Paul Hewitt. Neal played at Georgia Tech.-

Note the photo of Craig Neal showing Duane Broussard in the background. If Neal moves on to another job, does it mean Broussard will move up the ladder with Alford? Broussard was originally hired by Alford's predecessor Ritchie McKay at New Mexico.

Crean has been an in-studio commentator on TruTV who are covering some of the lastfour/first four games...he actually has done a good job -- he is very smart and knows more than most of the commentator guys...

The comments many of the fans are making are great...

"That is the only way that he will be on TV during the NCAA Tournament"

..(regarding wild hair-style)..."He looks like Dwight from "The Office""

..(regarding what appeared to be a heavy fake tan..).."Folks, no need to adjust the color of your TV - he's really that color"

This is a GREAT move on Crean's part. What better way to be in every potential recruits living room showing them your charisma and knowledge..... not to mention creating and enhancing your "brand"? Genius!

Florida A&M University place head coach Eugene Harris on administrative leave after 4 years.

A Wyoming native, Jeremy Cox, who is currently an assistant at South Florida, is lobbying through the public media to be considered for an interview for the open head coaching job at University of Wyoming. Wyoming is also using Parker Executive Search. Cox says he has not had much contact from them yet. Is this a similar situation to the Dane Fife publicity?
