2010-2011 Schedule

I don't know how this compares to the PJS coverages of BU.. but I think the LA Times has given a fair amount of coverage to the USC sanctions.. called for change etc.

Again I am neither agreeing or disagreeing with anyone on the PJS coverage of the Braves.. but I think to say no other city's media comes down on the team is too big of a blanket statement.

That's a nice list of articles from the LA Times. But I just reviewed them all, and they are virtually all just informational articles about the violations, sanctions, and about Pat Haden taking over for Mike Garrett as AD. And they are all focused only on the violations by the football program, and completely ignore those by the basketball program.
I can't find any columnist that condemns the coaches like we saw in the PJ Star. I can't find anyone willing to use words like renegade.
In fact, the worst thing I could find in the articles is this one bemoaning how much money USC could lose because of them.
NCAA sanctions could cost USC millions

...the LA Times has given a fair amount of coverage to the USC sanctions.. ..

no comparison at all....the USC violations were MAJOR, MAJOR national news-worthy and were crimes on a scale that when compared to what's happened at BU...would be like a drop of sweat compared to the Pacific Ocean!
All that does is strengthen the argument that the Peoria media take minor issues and try to run with the story to blow it into something......while elsewhere they really only spend time on true major issues.

Did anyone else note and cite that the other major local news/sports media people here in Central Illinois and in Peoria, WEEK, WMBD, WHOI, etc...
.. all passed entirely on those minor issues at BU such as the TB scuffle and twitter-gate, and even when they reported on the DRuff issue, they did so very, very responsibly by citing ONLY what was made known and confirmed in reports, and they never speculated on the ligature marks and battering with "hands and feet".
Also once the issue was reported, they then let it drop and never brought it up again - as the PJS did repeatedly for more than a year with each subsequent mention of Ruff.

You'd stay fairly busy if you pointed out each time we got off-topic from the subject of a thread. ;-)

I keep clicking on this post hoping there would be news on the thread title, but just a lot of rambling about totally off-topic subjects. I agree with TAS here.
Let's stay true to the topic if possible.

Jays fan here (I come in peace). I was surfing the web looking for some of the Jays opponents for the coming season and stumbled on to this...

Looks like you are hosting Jackson State on Dec. 20. Didn't see it posted anywhere else. Good luck this season.

Thanks for the info.....

Thanks....we knew we'd be getting a couple of guarantee opponents coming to play us as we do in most years......
Jackson State was 19-13 last season despite playing 20 games away from home as many of those smaller schools do.....
They actually had one of their better years although nobody would have mistaken them for a really good team...and I hope we don't have too many of these hi-RPI guarantees.

That's a conference-winning team from last year. NCAA team.

That's also a SWAC team.

I am genuinely conflicted right now. I promised to flame the **** out of any MVC team that willingly put a SWAC team on the schedule. Now I don't know what to do.

I guess it's at least the best team there, which will mitigate the effect on the computer numbers. Aargh.

As long as its the 1 game vs a SWAC team we schedule in a 5 year period. . .

I would also think this game would be a strong candidate for the new arena.

We'd better not take them lightly.
They played some non-conf. opponents tough last season - they will have nothin' to lose.
They DO lose their top scorer from last year, Johnson (18.1 ppg), but return practically all other contributers.
Not a terrible game to schedule, but we need another quality opponent.

Maybe a MAC team? Miami (OH), Akron?

Possibly a Horizon team? I'd love to see the Braves come to Loyola again, but it's not going to help us much in the way of RPI.

How about we travel to Wisc. GB for another road test!

hmmm, I think we might have the full Non-Con schedule b4 anyone knows about it thanks to T! :D I kinda want to start putting bets down to see if this is the exact same schedule BU is gonna post on their website! lol

MAC? No, we already have NIU.
Horizon League? No, we played enough of them the past few seasons.
Road? No, we're already playing enough tough road games.

Every game doesn't have to be great in our non-conference schedule. I'd prefer one more decent home opponent, and the rest can be filler. USC, Utah, and Duke give us the name recognition we need, and we'll have another quality game on the road in February for the BracketBuster. As long as we're not scheduling 300+ RPI teams, I don't really care who we get as long as it's at home.

I don't want to schedule any 150+ teams either though if possible.
We are probably going to get a couple cupcakes for the H.O.F. Classic tourney at home.
Jackson St. should NOT be a nail-biter.
I don't want another easy opponent at home.
You're right - I forgot about our road BB game in Feb.
We shouldn't be afraid to face good teams this season if we want to contend for the Valley championship. I know that scheduling is difficult though.

Jackson State's RPI last season was 199.
Idaho State & NIU were the only teams we scheduled last year that were much worse.
All the Valley teams had several worse than that....
SIU had 6 that were over 200, and Wichita hurt themselves with seven opponents over 210 (FDU, UI, Alcorn, TSU, SC-Upstate, UMKC, N. Dakota St.)
ISU had several that were way above even 260 RPI...(SIUE, North Florida, UIC, Norfolk St., SEMO, Grambling)....and we'll never do that kind of schedule...
