2 top players at St. Louis U dismissed

There are other media reports that say they are suspended and not dismissed. Not sure who's right. But all reports agree the players are not enrolled this semester.

Hmm...there have been people expecting this since last May...
when two unnamed Saint Louis basketball players were alleged to have raped a woman on campus..
As has happened so often lately (just recently at Michigan State)...the local authorities simply decided not to pursue the case....despite..
"It appears at the very least that there is sufficient evidence of violations
of university code of student conduct, which, if proven, would support
disciplinary action including expulsion,"
http://blogs.riverfronttimes.com/da...layers_wont_be_charged_for_sexual_assault.php

The fact that these two player are now apparently expelled...fits this weird puzzle that has laid dormant all summer while people were asking for answers...
Data shows rapes on college campuses are skyrocketing..and frequently don't get prosecuted...

BTW -- "Coach Rick Majerus tells FOX 2 he has been instructed not to talk.
Athletic Director Chris May told said he wouldn't and couldn't comment beyond the statement."
http://www.fox2now.com/news/ktvi-slu-reed-mitchell-basketball-out-101310,0,5767333.story

on their boards -- the main topic of the talk is that the fans mostly seem to want the guys reinstated, and point to the fact that the only info given is that they "no longer enrolled" and therefore not necessarily "expelled"!!

One guy is so mad and feels so cheated that two of his favorite players were booted, that he says this...
"Not giving SLU another dime...losing the $2500 I shell out for season tickets every year
won't exactly bankrupt a University which boasts a $900 million dollar enrollment,
but there is no other avenue available to those who would like to protest this decision.
We could write to May and Biondi but they had nothing to do with it."

T.. I hope I am misintrepeting your comments.. But it sounds like you are implying a university code of student conduct hearing proves their guilt or that there is enough evidence to prosecute. WOW! Did you read the one link I posted where the accused was allowed to bring in an attorney to present her case.. while the accused could not have their parents with them and were given only another student to represent them at this hearing? Now this was all according to father of one of the players. But if true this sound like a case where the deck was stacked against the players.

The love for SLU is not that great in St. Louis that prosecutors would drop a case against these kids if they had the evidence to make it stick.

I don't know what these kids did or did not do. But I am relatively confident prosecutors evaluated the evidence honestly and determined there was not enough to file charges.

I read the main article and to say the least was confused.

Bigger city than peoria obviously with more media..

But if this happened to say sammy and andrew, and there was no comment from the university, we would all be up in arms..

Same token if the players did something and the university was covering it up we would be up in arms..

I would just say, i hope the truth dictates the pushiment or lack thereof.

and many times especially when alcohol is involved....no one actually knows the truth

Bernie Miklasz hints that Rick Majerus is mad that they have taken the best players off his roster..

SLU is not a big deal in St. Louis. Mizzou is far more popular and gets more media attention. Bradley is a much bigger deal in Peoria than SLU in St. Louis. This story was covered up by the SLU. I'm surprised and disappointed that it took them this long to dismiss these players. The story down there was far beyond "sexual assault." Think Ben Roethlisberger.

A lot of what I know of this is 2nd hand information from high up at SLU. I've heard a lot more than what I wrote, and it's from an extremely reliable source. The players are lucky that they aren't in jail.

Only a matter of days after being booted at SLU, this projected 1st round NBA draft pick is registering at K-State. Is there any doubt he was welcomed by the coaching staff there?
K-State doesn't even have a scholarship open currently!
Reed's father stated to the press that they would look for another school right away where he'd be able to not only play basketball but " have a fresh start, start over.."

I am incredibly embarrassed of how SLU handled this situation. Something should have been done before midterms of the following semester. Suspending players on the week that official practice starts is bad for the school and the student athlete involved. (from all sources willie reed wasnt actually going to class, apparently happy with his place in majerus' dog house, and would have been ineligible anyways).

The unfortunate thing is that the "student" court that handled this was made up of female tenured professors (several who lead the feminist group on campus), talk about a fair trial....heh..

Willie Reed's dad did an interview on radio Friday night and said the very first night after the news broke, he
"fielded 22 calls from other schools" that wanted him....

I hate to belabor the point, but had this stuff happened at Bradley -- not only would all the players be gone in an instant, but there'd be deafening, daily demands that the entire coaching staff be fired and the entire athletic department as well -- and I honestly think I'd be one of those asking for such firings...
Yet -- of the four basketball players involved in this mess, two transferred out on their own -- and the other are being welcomed back and will likely be back on the team starting 2nd semester...

So -- why is the atmosphere for tolerance of this kind of behavior so very different in Peoria from St. Louis and elsewhere??

BTW- there are links to the actual police report -- and this article really didn't do it justice..as it is far more explicit and graphic..
Remember -- the police did virtually nothing and the prosecutors just ignored it...
but when the Saint Louis University student court reviewed this incident and actually heard the evidence and heard the testimony from the woman and the men -- it unanimously called for all the student-violators to be expelled...not just suspended from basketball - but kicked out of the school entirely! The school then followed suit and expelled them....
So obviously it's the consensus of the people there who have heard and know the facts, that these guys all are guilty of violating long time, standard guidelines for behavior on campus -- and were dealt the most severe penalty the student court could issue.
Meanwhile -- the woman and her family and lawyers never could interest the cops and prosecutors so the perps go scott free.

Wow!

Wow!

I am sorry.. where do you coming off making statements like these? What facts support "police did nothing".. "Prosecutors Ignored"! There is a huge difference between that and there not being enough evidence to prosecute.

And I hardly think this university court is proof of anything.
Remember.. in the university hearing.. the assued did not have legal representation.. while the accuser did.. there is not a real judge overseeing the proceedings.. you have no idea what rules of evidence were followed and what was allowed that would never be allowed in a real court of law.

I am sure something happened.. and it was not good for the woman. I am not defending the players. I have no love for St. Louis U.
But to condemn the police and prosecutors and convict the accused on this case based on what you know for fact.. is way out of bounds.

Sorry, Tornado is right in this situation. The only part that I would disagree with is that it would never get to this point at Bradley.
