She is the daughter of Peorian A.J. Guyton, who was a consensus 1st team All-American and Big Ten POY at Indiana. Her mother is also a basketball legend. Adriana Moises Pinto-Mafra, who A.J. met while playing in Italy, is one of the greatest Brazilian women's players of all time. She played on the Brazil National Team in the Olympics five times and also for the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury in her 20-year pro career.
Aaliyah did not play her freshman season because of Covid and will be a sophomore this fall, hopefully at Peoria Central High School. The Guytons are considering having Aaliyah play at IMG Academy in Florida if they can't be assured there will be a normal 2021-22 high school season in Illinois. She will be one of the top girl's players nationally in her class of 2024.

One-time Bradley women's basketball class of 2024 recruit Aaliyah Guyton from Peoria HS (daughter of A.J. Guyton) has narrowed her list of college choices to 5 finalists, 4 from the Big Ten (Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Michigan State), and one from the ACC (Pitt)-

Aaliyah Guyton now with U of I, is playing this summer with the Brazilian National Women's team as they compete
for the FIBA South American Championship.
They are in the quarter-finals and play against Paraguay today at 7pm Central Time

The FIBA web site mistakenly has her listed as playing for Illinois State University

Brazil is 2-0 so far in the competition and Aaliyah is their leading scorer at 12.5 ppg, 6 rebounds and 4 asst
There are a couple of streaming sites that are carrying it but they are all premium.

Aaliyah Guyton and her Brazilian National Team clobbered Paraguay 74-46- Aaliyah had 13 pts, 3 reb, 3 asst
They now face Argentina in the semifinals tonight. If they win, they face Venezuela tomorrow for the FIBA South America
Women's Americup Qualifiers Championship.

update - halftime in the semi-final Brazil 35 - Argentina 36 - Aaliyah Guyton 10 pts, 4 reb, 3 asst at halftime

Final score: Argentina 71 - Brazil 66. Brazil battled back from down 12 and got within 2. Aaliyah Guyton 18 pts, 4 reb, 4asst
Brazil will play Columbia tomorrow in the 3rd place game, 5:30pm Central.

Update - for anyone interested...
In today's game, Brazil beats Colombia 61-49 to finish in 3rd place
Aaliyah Guyton was the star - 18 points on 8-16 and 2-5 from 3-point, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals!

Peoria's & the Illini WBB's Aaliyah Guyton is one of the stars for the Brazilian Senior Women's Basketball Team
Brazil lost a close game yesterday to South Sudan in group play but still can advance with a win today...Aaliyah had 20 pts, 3 reb and 3 asst.
Aaliyah of course is the daughter of Peoria basketball legend AJ Guyton and niece of Daniel Ruffin.

In the FIBA Olympic Qualifiers--
Brazil defeats Argentina 58-53 and with this win in Group Play, they clinch a spot in the Knockout Round Semifinals (Final Four).
Aaliyah Guyton had 9 pts, 4 reb, 6 asst despite hampered by foul trouble.
They will play the semifinals Saturday then Finals Sunday with the exact pairing yet to be determined as a couple games are yet to be played in Group Play.
