Another interesting lawsuit - you knew this was coming....

I hadn't heard this one before....but it's in the news because the University of Miami's football schedule is out & they play DUKE for Homecoming Nov. 14, 2026.

Last year, Duke threw $8 million in NIL at Tulane quarterback, Darian Mensah and he performed well in 2025, leading Duke to an ACC Championship.
But then he snubbed Duke & chose to enter the transfer portal looking for an even bigger payday... eventually signing with Miami.

Duke sued him for breaching his contract, and getting a temporary injunction preventing Mensah from signing anywhere else.
Miami needed a quarterback and wasn't going to wait all spring & summer for legal proceedings so Mensah negotiated and
had to pay an (unspecified) buyout (reportedly millions) to Duke to get out of that mess and sign at Miami.

In the end, it proves what we all knew- that the big schools with the big money can cherry pick and get any & every top player,
any time they want - it's just a matter of how much $$ it will take. Even the big schools (Duke) get looted by even bigger guys.

well, here we go again....

The judge in Ohio has GRANTED an injunction that allows the 24 college atheletes who were OUT OF ELIGIBILITY
to have an additional year and they are now eligible this coming season. - LINK

The judge's order also allows the athletes to transfer outside of the NCAA's portal window.
As it stands, this decision affects ONLY the 24 plaintiffs listed in this specific lawsuit
(one of whom is quite familiar to MVC fans, Jalen Quinn who played at Loyola and Drake
and who is in the transfer portal - so he will become a highly sought-after transfer)
...and does not grant anything to any other players, but is said to possibly "open the door" for others.
The NCAA has already said they are appealing.

So Meta & Alex have hope??

I don't think Alex's situation fits the criteria of this judge's decision. Those players who brought the lawsuit were enrolled in college from 2022-26. Their claim was that they were one year too late to get the extra Covid year, and one year too early to get the "5 in 5" rule.
Alex was enrolled in college for 6 years (2020-2026). He got a redshirt year for a back injury in the 2021-22 year at Wright State, and he got the extra Covid year in 2025-26 with Bradley.

In addition to Ahmet Jonovic, A.J. Smith and Corey Thomas fit the same criteria as those athletes in the lawsuit.
