Mullins out at SIU

Now it is being reported that Jerrance Howard will be hired as an assistant at Arizona State under head coach Bobby Hurley - https://twitter.com/CBB_Central/status/1780627422787833960

Nagy did indeed retain Howard who posted on the SIU athletics site, since been taken down, that he and his family were grateful for the retention and was looking forward to working with Nagy. I don't know what happened, if there was a subsequent falling out or what, but it didn't take long for it to happen. I don't know how Howard, or any assistant, can establish roots anywhere for himself and his family if he moves every year. Howard was at Texas for a year before SIU. ASU will be his third stop in three years.

No falling out that I heard about. I was told he was kept on until a new coach was named and so he could look around for something else.

No falling out that I heard about. I was told he was kept on until a new coach was named and so he could look around for something else.

But just a couple weeks ago, SIU issued a press release that said Nagy wanted to keep Jerrance Howard on his staff.
Nagy was quoted as saying-
“I’m so pleased to be able to keep Jerrance on staff. He provides continuity and a relationship for the players that choose to stay with us from last year’s team,” Nagy said. “I know how well respected he is when it comes to recruiting and coaching, and I look forward to working with him.”

Jerrance Howard was quoted saying-
“My family and I are excited to join Coach Nagy’s staff and continue to invest our time and energy at SIU,” Howard said. “When you combine Coach Nagy’s track record of success with the history and tradition of Saluki basketball and the Carbondale community, you produce great expectations for the future.
“I am grateful for the continued support of Director of Athletics Tim Leonard and Chancellor Austin Lane,” Howard continued. “Their steady leadership alongside coach Nagy should have everyone excited about the new era of Saluki basketball.”

Something suddenly changed. Maybe it was because of a better money deal for Jerrance, but it seemed strange coming right after both sides made a big deal about him staying, and they said all those nice things.

SIU released this press release, saying all the things the Southern Illinoisan newspaper article said. However, they have now removed it from their website - https://siusalukis.com/news/2024/4/...nce-howard-will-be-retained-on-coaching-staff

Not what I was told. They were trying to be nice and hopefully give him a little bargaining chip (although very little). What would you have them write in a press release. Also this deal with Arizona State was done more than a week ago. Not sure why the hold up in announcing it.
