MVC tourney

Drake finished the last 5:30 on an 8-2 run to put them up 45-32 at the half. When Tucker went out of the game with 2 fouls it was Atin Wright who went off as he scored 12 of his game high 15 points. Tucker ended the half with 14. Conwell and Avila each had 9 and Kent had 8 for ISU. Drake was 18-35 overall, 7-11 from 3 while ISU was 13-29 overall, 3-14 from 3. And in a game between the top two teams in shooting FT’s in the Valley only. 6 were shot.

Story of this game is outside shooting. Drake is 9-15 from 3 and ISU is just 4-19. Drake leads 63-49 with 10:50 left. Tucker has 21 for Drake while Jason Kent has 14 for ISU

Getting to be be crunch time for the Sycamores as they trail Drake 69-58 with 7:37 left. Their defense needs to tighten up real quick

Drake timeout with 6:45 left as ISU cuts the lead to 69-63, the first time it’s been under double digits since 2:00 to go in the first half

We have a ballgame folks! 72-72 with 4:08 left. Isaiah Swope had been a man on a mission this half as he has scored 13 of ISU’s last 15 points in the last 4;00. And he has a ft to put them up by 1 as he got fouled on a made ft.

Really glad ISUb has fought back in this one, kept it very entertaining to watch. I hope they still have something left in the tank for the end of the game.

1:24 left and Drake leads with the ball 79-76. Conner Enright, the consensus player everybody loves to hate, but you’d want him on your team, made a 3 to put them up

All-Tournament Team
Tucker DeVries, Drake (Doug Elgin Award - Most Outstanding Player)
Atin Wright, Drake
Robbie Avila, Indiana State
Ryan Conwell, Indiana State
Connor Hickman, Bradley

A great comeback by ISU but didn't execute down the stretch. Drake having been there and done that showed their moxie and was able to finish it. Hopefully the close loss to the defending champion will help ISU’s case for an at large birth in the big dance. For the game Drake shot 31-60 overall, 11-18 from 3. Tucker DeVries had 27 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Brodie and Walker each had 17 points. All 5 starters for ISU were in double figures led by Jason Kent who’s had 22 points and 9 rebounds but 2 late Ft’s that could have made a difference. They were 31-59 overall but just 7-24 from 3 which ended up costing them the game. I sure hope and believe both teams get in. Having been at all 11 games again unfortunately I saw a lot of bad basketball. But the last two games made up for it. I sure hope papa DeVries gets hired elsewhere so he can take his kid with him. He’s just too good. Except when guarded by Malevy Leons.

Really can't argue- nobody on UNI stood out so the 5th spot was Connor's.
But largely overlooked was the (once again) INCREDIBLE defensive play of Malevy Leons. I would love to know who voted for the All-Tournament Team.
Ask any coach- DEFENSE is at least half the game and very few double digit scorers put the effort into also being good on the defensive end.
Malevy showed some of the best defense this season down in St. Louis but didn't get much attention for it.

All the coaches respect how good Malevy is on defense since he was voted the MVC defensive player of the year twice. I think you have to put up good offensive numbers to make the all tour. team. I believe had he ave. 15 points a game in this Tour. he would have made that team. I also believe having to guard DeVries effected his shot which led to him not scoring as much in that game.

A team that doesn't make it to the finals is lucky to get anyone on the All Tournament team, let alone two.
Fortunate and glad to see Connor made it.
