The immediate eligibility would not apply to him, so he'd need to be granted a waiver.
Unfortunately, a couple months ago the NCAA voted for stricter rules limiting 2nd time transfers, so waivers won't be as easy to get, and to hopefully to reduce the number of players transferring-

Waivers now will be granted only if 1) players have a physical or mental health issue causing them to transfer (requires supporting documentation), or 2) if there were "exigent circumstances", such as physical or sexual abuse that necessitated a transfer.

Probably an argument to be had here. He transferred from Illinois and did not play the following year due to a torn ACL. So will they count that as sitting out after a transfer.
 
Doesn't matter. Immediate eligibility can only apply to initial transfer, not to 2nd transfer, except if waiver is granted.

My understanding of the rules released by the NCAA, yes. However, I read there are some legal challenges coming.

So does this apply with Pop Weathers too… he was a transfer last year and now in the portal this year again - I assumed it was a mutual agreement in his case (player and team not getting what they want - so Bradley allowed the waiver

There are now about 360 Division I teams.
Each team has a maximum of 13 scholarships. If they all have 13 scholarships filled (which many do not) , that is about 4,680 total D1 scholarships.
There are already about 1,400 names in the D1 transfer portal. 1,400 ÷ 4,680 = approximately 30% of D1 players in the portal.

That is approximate and not exact since there are a few walk-ons in the portal, and as noted, not all teams have all 13 scholarships in use.
But it adds up to roughly 4 players from every Division I team in the portal, and more are entering every day.
Last year, the portal topped out close to 1,800 names.

FWIW, some of the players in the transfer portal are walk ons. However, I doubt it is 10%.
 
These valley players need to realize that they more then likely will be reserves on these teams. No way Jones plays much at Purdue and the same goes for Domask at Illinois. Krikke probably has the best chance at Iowa and now that he has gone there Mast is more then likely out as far as that place. I just see players now making bad decisions and over rating themselves.

I would respectfully disagree with your statement. There have been several Valley players over the past two years that "moved up" and made a significant impact for their new team.

I think any of these guys could be starters, but will probably end up as solid rotation players.

Personally I have no problem with these players leaving and moving to a power 5 school. They all are all grand transfers (Mast only played 3 years but he is graduating this year due to redshirting). They were loyal to their schools and put in the effort to those programs.

I can't blame them for wanting to make a little more money and a solid chance at the NCAA tournament.

I agree with both of you. Chances are they will not be stars. Most likely solid rotational players, 6th men, etc. I also hold nothing against the guys that graduated.

I greatly hope that younger players are watching all of this transfer stuff play out. They are not dumb. Greed is going to bite some of these guys in the rear without question. But there will be plenty of success stories as well.

Antonio Reeves is a great example of an MVC player that transferred to a top power school and has success (Although one could def argue about the success given the season Kentucky had this year).

But for every Reeves, how many Yesuf's are there? How many never come close to being solid contributors on a power team after they transfer? Time will tell from here.
 
Another Murray State plyer enters the portal-
Marlon Lestin, a 6'9" sophomore who is originally from Montreal, and spent his freshman year at East Carolina Univ. This past season at Murray State, he only appeared in 7 games for a total of 10 minutes of playing time, and he was scoreless. He did not play in either game against Bradley
