Terry Roberts

As we all know, Terry Roberts chose to leave Bradley after last season. As a Georgia transfer he has done well... leading the team in minutes (29.8 min), PPG (13.4) and is averaging 38% shooting (29.5% from 3). But Georgia is 16-14, 6-11 in the SEC with a NET of 147 compared to Bradley's 56, and a RPI of 147 compared to Bradley's 41. He won't be going to the NCAA's or the NIT this year and he didn't share the thrill of winning a championship this year. Hope it was worth it to him.

No sense looking back on Terry Roberts…

Terry had a great season + was significant in the improvement of Georgia’s basketball program + (a birdie told me) he has a bank account, thanks to NIL -$100K larger + his new school celebrated a National Football Championship

Bradley didn’t take a step back, rather significant steps forward + found suitable replacements + development from existing players (that might not have happened if TR was here) + won a conference and are heading to ArchMadness as #1 seed and confidence.

It was a WIN-WIN

I agree it was actually a win-win. Both parties are indeed better off. For Bradley it was addition by subtraction (although it didn’t seem like it at first) and Terry made a little cash apparently. Works for me.

Agree win-win. Any regrets he has can be assuaged by the $100K.

Does anybody know if NIL payments are typically a one time shot? I'd guess it varies and depends on what the player does for the money. For example making commercials.

I wouldn’t begrudge these kids for taking the money. They may never have the opportunity to get a payout like that again in their lifetime and that’s a heck of a head start on life for a kid to have.
I was glad we had Terry and wish we could have kept him and hope he has nothing but success hereafter. He seemed to be a classy kid with a good work ethic and I enjoyed watching him as a Brave and now it’s time to enjoy Duke, Connor, Zek, and Pop, a pretty effective group of guards in their own right!

Well said Tommy!

I believe that Duke, Connor, and Zeke (and Davis) are all sophomores, correct? How about our chances to do some more damage in the next 2 seasons??!!

The positive trade-off in my mind (going into the season) was Duke seemed a bit tougher mentally than TR. Roberts had incredible skill, but I didn't see him as a leader on the court like Duke. We'd get up big on the road, but he struggled to keep the focus and fight to the end (just my perspective).

Man, if Pop could hit some jumpers, I like his game too...much like Hannah last year, he is kind of an offensive liability. I'd love to see him improve in the offseason to become that backup PG we expected...then again, it seems that we also have the luxury of Hickman and Zeke to run the point.
I don't see Pop coming back, but could be wrong.

Pop is just a sophomore eligibility-wise, so I think he'll be back. He has already transferred once (from Troy to Bradley), and the immediate eligibility rule only applies to players who are first-time transfers. So if he transferred again, he'd probably have to sit out a year (unless he got a waiver). Plus, where is he going to go? He's the starting point guard and a valuable piece on the best team in the MVC and he gets plenty of minutes. I don't think he'd get interest from the Power 6 teams because of his size.

DC - are you referring to Pop Weathers? Or Duke Dean? I know Duke was Sunbelt FOY for Troy.
I've no doubt Duke will be back, and I can't imagine any of our other key contributors would consider going elsewhere.
Pop, however, might still not get much PT with 3 solid guards and a sharp-shooter in Davis.

Sorry, I got the nicknames mixed up.
I was referring to Duke. So as Emily Litella would say, nevermind. (Saturday Night Live reference for the young fans).

I agree that there is a possibility Pop might consider leaving. He did have offers from other D1 programs (Stetson, NJIT, Arkansas State, and maybe others). So he would qualify for the immediate eligibility.

Wish Terry well and appreciate all he did while at BU but I wouldn’t trade any of these young men for anyone. This group has proven they are a team and that they put winning above stats or anything else.

Think about it, we don’t have one young man on this team that has to get his. We have three guys coming off the bench that could start on most MVC teams. Everyone of them would accept any role on this team if it meant the team could win.

I find it refreshing and amazing! Coach deserves a lot of credit for this.

I wasn't real hot on Hickman for a while but now he is one of my favorites on this team. Really like the attitude he has displayed over the past several games and his performance has been matching. Can't wait to see what he does in the future.

He's become a real fan favorite. And I hear he likes it at Bradley, and seems like the kind of kid who thrives under a coach like Coach Wardle. No one can predict the future, but I don't get a sense that he would look to go portal-shopping like Terry Roberts did. Let's hope not.

He was my pick to have a huge year at the beginning, as I like his all around game. Reminds me of a mid major Kirk Hinrich.

That prediction was looking real bad for a while and had me doubting it, but he has really turned it on lately and made Bradley a much better team filling that crucial shooting guard role. If he keeps it up this team can do damage in St. Louis and beyond. He certainly has a confidence that is great to have without being cocky. I’d love to see him be that old school four year type of player we rarely see anymore.

It’s hard to fault anyone for taking money, but I do wonder if the chance to be a legend at one institution is an opportunity many players overlook today. Think of all of our favorite Braves over the years. Most of them were around four years, if not a minimum of two to three years. Very few athletes become legends, especially at Bradley, in one year. When people see some of the Bradley greats at games that still means something today. I’m not sure people will feel that away about one and done type of players.

But I do think this team has the right blend of guards. As good as Terry was, he had the ball a lot, and wasn’t efficient. I like running this team through Rienk, with the guards splitting ball handling duties to change it up.

Perfectly stated. We have been fortunate to see this team play. Something very special.

More "Bradley" recognition.... All the best to Terry Roberts in his pursuit of his dream!

"UGA Basketball’s Terry Roberts has declared for the NBA Draft per a post on his Instagram account. Roberts led UGA in scoring this year with 13.2 points per game"

A bit of a surprise... Terry Roberts announces on Instagram that he will not return to Georgia for his final year of eligibility (his Covid year).
He will remain in the NBA Draft.

He might have gotten some assurance from an NBA team that they want to draft him in the 2nd round.
Or maybe he's just getting bad advice.
I have checked a dozen or more mock drafts, and none have Terry getting drafted in the 2 rounds of the 2023 NBA Draft.
In fact, there are several bloggers who rank the top 100 players in the draft, and Terry's name is not on those lists, either.

If I were a betting man I would place a bet that Roberts stopped attending classes at UGA and would not have been eligible to play another season there... just a hunch.

As politely as could possibly be put, perhaps Terry didn't enjoy school enough to want to play another year of college basketball. :)
