Manhattan College just fired their head coach Steve Masiello-

This is very strange timing for firing their head coach, 13 days before their first game. There is obviously much more to this than Masiello's record.

Yes, that might be a problem. Even if they can find another school to give them a scholarship, most schools are now more than two months into their school year, too late for a new student to enroll and be eligible for this semester.
And, Jose Perez, their top player and the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, is already in his 5th season and with his 3rd school. He would not qualify for the immediate eligibility rule with another transfer (it is only applicable to first-time transfers), so he would need another waiver (which he received after his last transfer).

This explanation isn't only not believable, it is genuinely hilarious. How does her excuse that "with the recruiting season beginning soon" (it's actually been going on all summer and fall) justify firing the head coach days before the season starts?
It might make a little sense if they already had a solid replacement ready to name, but by naming an interim head coach from the same coaching staff, it does nothing to benefit recruiting, and likely sets their recruiting back big time.

So where do academic standards and continuity come into play? Most universities require a minimum number of credits to come from the issuing university before awarding of a degree. Transfer credits, at one time, were scrutinized as well. The whole system seems like an academic sham as we see "student athletes" who can barely write a coherent sentence get degrees along side legit "scholar athletes" who make Dean's List. Conundrum.

Hartford administration announced their intention to drop from Division I to Division III a year ago, and is now cutting corners to save money. They are a D1 independent this season, and will be D3 next season.

The last straw for Gallagher was the school’s decision not to send an athletic trainer with his team for a closed scrimmage at Dartmouth last week, he said. One player sustained a knee injury and, Gallagher asserts, did not receive sufficient care. Also, Gallagher wrote, the school allegedly denied a credit card application used by the director of basketball operations to buy meals for the team at road games, without an alternative plan.
“As I have communicated on numerous occasions ... the University of Hartford has not only breached the material terms of my contract, but has consistently and repeatedly undermined the men’s basketball program to the point where player safety and well-being has been jeopardized,” Gallagher wrote, in his letter to Woodward. “... This is something that I, as a coach I cannot tolerate.”

Wisconsin-Green Bay has fired head coach Will Ryan, son of former long-time Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan. They are 2-19 in Ryan's 3rd season as head coach. He was 8-17 his first season in 2000-21, and 5-25 in his second season (2021-22) for a cumulative record of 15-61.

When Brian Wardle left in 2015 to take the Bradley job, they hired Division II head coach Linc Darner of Florida Southern University. Darner took over a program at Green Bay that had back to back 24 win seasons under Wardle. And he had winning records in 4 of the 5 seasons he was at Green Bay. He finished 3rd in the Horizon league in his final season, and finished in the top 4 in 4 of his 5 seasons.

But that wasn't enough for the Green Bay athletic director, and he was fired. It was seen by many as a very "puzzling" move-

Then the AD hired another D II coach, Will Ryan of Wheeling University, who had a total of only 1 season of head coaching experience in his career (14-13 at Wheeling U). It was pretty clear he was hired mainly because he was Bo Ryan's son. But it hasn't worked out. Why they chose to fire him in mid-season, is a mystery. It always looks bad for the school and AD to pull the plug a couple months into the season.
By the way, UW-Green Bay is still paying Linc Darner, who still had 6 years left on his contract when he was fired in May, 2020. He was signed through the 2025-26 season and is still getting paychecks from Green Bay. And now they will owe money to Will Ryan. He signed a 6-year contract in June, 2020, and thus is also owed through the 2025-26 season.

Will they consider any of Bradley's coaches? I have to think Jimmie Foster will get consideration. He was a finalist for the job back in 2020.

The other big name job that is open is Texas. Chris Beard was fired after domestic violence accusations emerged. He signed a 7-year, $5 million per year deal in April, 2021. That kind of money will attract interest from a lot of the top coaches in the country. Interim Head Coach Rodney Terry could be a consideration if he finishes strong.
There are already rumors suggesting that Rick Pitino might be a possibility.

It's almost time for coach firings start to heat up.
This morning, Mississippi fired their head coach Kermit Davis-

Mississippi is just 10-18 this season, and 2-13 in the SEC, tied for last. They have 3 games left in their regular season schedule.
In his 5 seasons at Ole Miss, Davis is 74-79. Prior to Mississippi, Davis was very successful at Middle Tennessee, winning the Sun Belt or CUSA regular season championship 5 of the final 7 seasons he was there, and going to 3 NCAA Tournaments his final 6 seasons.

Dana Ford's record at Missouri State hasn't been terrible, but as Tommy posted, he hasn't met expectations. Their fans are not satisfied, and are not buying tickets or attending games like they historically have. They averaged only 3,300 per game, their lowest average in 48 years, despite a winning record (16-14, 12-8 ) and a top half finish in the MVC this year.
Ford took over for Paul Lusk in 2018, after Lusk never had a winning MVC record in his 6 years. And Dana Ford has been there for 5 years, and has never had a losing MVC record. His overall record is 88-64, and 56-36 in the MVC, and Missouri State finished tied for 2nd place last year with Drake and Loyola, just 1 game behind the regular season champion UNI. They have had 12 or more MVC wins each of the last 3 seasons, and have made it to the MVC Tournament semifinals 3 years straight.

That article suggests that "A move would solely be based on performance and the administration’s belief in Ford’s ability to get the Bears to take the next step", and not the pending investigation into Ford's accusation of groping a woman. I am not sure I believe that this incident, regardless how the investigation plays out, hasn't played some part in the dissatisfaction with Ford.
In Ford's favor is the fact he has 2 more years left on his contract at $425,000 per year. Missouri State has had serious financial problems in recent years, has cut back staff, and dropped a sport, so can they afford to pay an $850,000 buyout?

Add Austin Peay to the list of open coaching jobs. Today they fired 2nd year head coach Nate James. He took over a program with 4 straight winning season, and had records of 12-17 in 2021-22, and 9-22 this season.
 
I suspect some Valley head and assistant coaches to be contacted for at least 4 of those jobs. One could directly impact our program. We’ll see.
