US Amateur Qualifiers

This past Tuesday saw two former Bradley golfers qualify for the US Men's and Women's Amateur's. Taylor Ledwein, who was a 5 time All MVC 1st teamer and was the MVC Golfer of the Year in the 20-21 season, qualified for the Woman's Amateur that will be held at Chambers Bay golf course in Washington state on August 8-14. Taylor, who was a volunteer women's assistant golf coach this past season, shot a 2 under 69 at a qualifier in Blaine, Minnesota. Chris Kamin, who played at BU from 1992-96, qualified for the Men's Amateur that will be held at Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey on August 15-21. Chris, orginally from Orland Park, played professionally for a few years after Bradley and, after getting his amateur status back, has won some local amateur tournaments in Arizona where he resides. Chris shot rounds of 70 and 67 at White Eagle Golf Club in Naperville to tie for medalist honors. Chris is also an Illini Golf alumnus, one of many really good golfers who have worked for BU Hall of Famer Bill Ott over the last 30+ years.

The 1st day of qualifying for the 122nd U. S. Women's Amateur took place today and former BU player Taylor Ledwein shot an even par 73 and is in a 16 way tie for 29th., 6 shots behind the leader. Taylor had 2 birdies on the front and 2 bogies on the back. The low 64 scorers after Tuesday's round advance to the Round of 64 match play. There are 62 players at +1 and lower plus 15 players at +2 so Taylor doesn't have a big margin for error. Go get em Taylor!
 
Yesterday Taylor shot another even par 73 and finished tied for 28th to qualify for the Round of 64 match play part of the tournament. She was the 28th seed and has advanced to the round of 32 as she beat the 38th seed Lauren Zaretsky of Canada
5 & 4. Way to go Taylor!! She won the 1st hole with a par and never looked back. Taylor will play the #60 seed Julia Gregg from Texas who won her match with a birdie on the 1st playoff hole. Go get em again Taylor!
 
Unfortunately Taylor came up a little short today as she lost in the Round of 32 2Up to Julia Gregg, Taylor won the first hole then they parred the next 5 holes. Taylor bogeyed #7 to square the match. Gregg birdied #9 to go 1Up then bogeyed the next 2 holes to go 1 down after #11. After they parred #12 Taylor went bogey, par, bogey while Gregg went par, birdie, par to go 2Up after #15. After parring #16 they both parred #17, ending the match. Congrats on the effort Taylor!
 
The 122nd Men's US Amateur got underway at 2 courses in Paramus, New Jersey today and former BU golfer Chris Kamin is in a 20 way tie in 32nd after shooting a +1 71. It was a very up and down day for Chris as he had 9 pars, 4 bogies, 1 double bogey, 3 birdies and an eagle on his card at Arcola Country Club. Chris will play at The Ridgewood Country Club on Tuesday as he tries to make the top 64 for match play which will happen at RCC on Wednesday. There are 26 players tied at +2 including Morton native and U of I golfer Tommy Kuhl.
 
There are a ton of great young up-and-coming golfers in the US. Thanks for the update jimmy. I hope you are doing well!

I am doing very well Da Coach. Hope you're doing the same. Unfortuantely Chris Kamin's day wasn't as good as he hoped as he a 5 over 76 and missed the cut to advance to match play. Chris was done in by 3 double bogies including one to finish his round. Proud of you getting there Chris! Morton's Tommy Kuhl had himself a really good day as he shot a 2 under 69 to finish at even par, tied for 9th, for his 2 days of stroke play. Tommy will play Bryce Lewis in the Round of 64 on Wednesday.

I checked on Morton's Tommy Kuhl, who had a terrific career golfing for the U. of Illinois, since I have known his grandfather for a long time. Tommy made it to the match play rounds and was seeded #13 in the round of 64, but unfortunately, he lost in his first match to the #52 seeded Bryce Lewis of Tennessee.
