Transfer portal players

It's hard to keep up with all the players transferring away from Murray State. What is going on?
In addition to the 7 players previously listed, 2 more Murray State players just entered the transfer portal-
  • 3/29/2022 - 2018 SG DaQuan Smith (6-1, 185, 2★) will be transferring- redshirt soph who averaged 3.5 ppg, & 1.2 rpg
  • 3/29/2022 - 2019 SF Matt Smith (6-6, 225, 2★) will be transferring- redshirt sophomore who did not play this season
That makes 9 of Murray State's players now in the transfer portal

They also had Corenlious Williams decommit.

Yes, Corneilous Williams, arguably Murray State's top 2022 recruit, just announced he was decommitting in view of the coaching change-

Adam MIller played his freshman season at Illinois, then transferred to LSU, where he tore his ACL and missed this entire season. But his coach (Will Wade) was just fired, and the LSU program is awaiting a decision from the NCAA regarding serious violations. So Adam Miller is on the move and he just entered the transfer portal again-

I'll tell you what, he comes home and I will shut up about not having guards. Also Murray St is probably going to be atrocious for a few years or maybe more the way that's going

It seems pretty unlikely, but I wonder if he might consider playing for a school like Bradley.
Bradley offered him way back in December of 2016 when he was still playing at Peoria Manual HS-

Btw, Adam Miller might not be able to take advantage of the immediate eligibility rule with this current transfer. The NCAA instituted the rule last year, and it is still in effect. But it can only be used one time. Miller transferred from Illinois to LSU and intended to use the immediate eligibility at LSU last year, but because of his injury, he never played.
This will probably require a ruling by the NCAA to know if the immediate eligibility can be applied again with this year's transfer.

Even the guy who declared for the NBA Draft, K.J. Williams, will most likely withdraw and return for another year at the college level, IMO. But I think you are right, he is more likely to choose LSU to reunite with his old coach than to return to Murray State and play for the new coach there. Of the rest of the transfers, probably only one or two are at the level to play at LSU.
The only other elite player they had was Tevin Brown, a 1st team All-OVC player who averaged 16.8 ppg and 5.8 rpg for Murray State. He is the only one of Murray State's regular rotation players who has eligibility left and hasn't entered the transfer portal. He is from the Mobile, Alabama area, which is relatively close to LSU. It will be interesting to see if McMahon coaxes him to transfer to LSU.

The Athletic has a ranking of the top available transfers in the portal and Terry Roberts is ranked 15. Antonio Reeves is 16. From the Athletic on Roberts-
Roberts was the Missouri Valley’s Newcomer of the Year this past season, a first-team all-conference player for Bradley who is lightning in a bottle offensively. He’s electric with the ball, capable of creating something out of nothing on offense in a flash. His handle is terrific, and he’s an explosive athlete who can get where he needs to go out of isolations. He averaged nearly 15 points, five rebounds and four assists this year, and hit 34 percent from 3 on a steady diet of tough pull-up shots. He makes some really impressive live-dribble passing reads, but the critical part of his game that he’s going to have to clean up will be turning it over. His assist-to-turnover ratio was very close to the 1-to-1 mark, and he makes some choices both in terms of shot selection and distribution that will worry high-major coaches. But above all, this is a high-major athlete at the guard spot with enough size to not be a liability on defense and enough handle to genuinely break down opposing teams. He has a real shot to be a starter.

Thanks for the info. Most fans won't be able to see The Athletic's ranking, since they are subscription only

Here is another site put together by a statistician using various basketball metrics to analyze teams and individual players in Division I.
One of his rankings is the players in the transfer portal. To see his entire list, open the menu on the left side of the page and select Transfer Portal
https://evanmiya.com/

Murray State's KJ Williams is #2, Adam Miller is #5, Belmont's Will Richard is #7, Murray State's Trae Hannibal is #11, and Murray State's Justice Hill is #19.
Terry Roberts is now #27 and Antonio Reeves is #117.
Roberts was in the top 20, but dropped a few points after some of the players above him were added to the list today.
Evan Miyakawa's ranking includes nearly 900 names. Jayson Kent is currently #322.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if anyone has entered the transfer portal from St. Peters?

One new MVC player's name is in the transfer portal today- Jordan Kwiecinski of Drake.
https://godrakebulldogs.com/sports/m...wiecinski/8196

He was a 2020 grad from Loyola Academy in Chicago, and Bradley recruited him and his twin brother Bennett, though it appears Bradley coaches never offered-
https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/sp...875#post487875

He only played briefly in 8 blowout wins his freshman season at Drake, and redshirted this season and did not play.
Stats- https://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...dan-kwiecinski

His twin brother played his freshman season at Siena, and played this season at new D1 St. Thomas in the Summit League.
He played very little each season-

Tevin Brown was the one I was referring to as declaring for the draft. He posted on Twitter about a week ago saying so. Basically everyone that had even 1% of a role on their team will most likely not be there next year

Wow Murray State. So it looks like a single year of success and your team gets farmed for talent. The transfer portal needs to end. This is ridiculous.
