The 2022 transfer portal is starting to explode- as of this post, there are about 190 Division I players- almost 30 new names today
https://verbalcommits.com/transfers/2022?division=D1

Note the abundance of point guards in the transfer portal.

There is also an expanding D2 transfer list. Some of these kids will end up in D1.
https://verbalcommits.com/transfers/2022?division=D2

There were some pretty good former D2 kids in the MVC this season, among them-
Tate Hall- 3 year starter for Loyola- averaged 6 ppg and shot 45% from three in MVC games- played his first 2 seasons at D2 Univ. of Indianapolis
Cameron Henry- starter & best player for Indiana State- averaged 14.6 ppg in MVC games (top 10 in MVC)- transferred from D2 Lincoln Memorial U.
Xavier Bledson- key player for Indiana State- 9 ppg, 37% from three, 90% on FTs , lead team in assists- transferred from D2 Lincoln Memorial U.
Kevion Taylor- starter for Valparaiso- 12.8 ppg (Top 15 in MVC); best player down the stretch; team's 3pt% & assist leader- from D2 Winona State U.
Steven Verplancken- 2-year starter for SIU; averaged 7 ppg each of his 2 seasons in D1; shot 41% from three; played for D2 Glenville State U.
Anthony D'Avanzo- was a starter for SIU last season and averaged 8 ppg & 4 rpg; injuries limited action this season; transferred from D2 Lewis Univ.

And believe it or not, Gaige Prim, an All-MVC player for all 3 years at Missouri State (1st team in 2020 & 2021), started his career and played 1 yr. at Division 2 West Texas A&M, (can't believe no D1 school recruited him!)
Btw, West Texas A&M used to be a Division I school known as West Texas State and was a member of the Missouri Valley Conference from 1972 to 1986.

Also, btw, Gaige Prim's younger brother (Dayne Prim) is a sophomore at juco Western Wyoming Community College. He averaged 16 & 9, and shot 40% from three as a freshman, and 15 & 7.4, and 36.4% from three as a sophomore. He is a D1 prospect and has a few D1 offers but is still uncommitted.

I got to see Mo Cheeks play for the Buffaloes as well as Terry Adolph and Goliath Yeggins.

Yes, I remember all those guys playing for West Texas State when they were in the MVC. They always seemed to have some pretty talented players, but they didn't have many winning teams. They had only had 3 winning seasons out of their 14 seasons in the league. Bradley had pretty good success against them, too. Bradley was 19-9 against West Texas A&M when they were in the MVC, including winning the last 8 times they met and 13 of the last 15 times.

Here is a YouTube video worth watching (at least the first couple minutes). It is the final time Bradley played West Texas A&M in the MVC Tournament in March, 1986. It was Bradley's 21st win in a row, and you can see the greatness of Jim Les and Hersey Hawkins throughout the game (note Hersey's dunk with 25 seconds left). This was also the last year without the 3-point line.

Looking at the D1 transfer list, there are a few familiar names- including some players Bradley once recruited-

4-star Donovan Williams leaving Oklahoma State-

https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/s...9-beyond-recruiting-targets/page27#post489827

3-star James Graham III leaving Maryland-

https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/s...nd-beyond-recruiting-targets/page5#post488361

RayQuawndis Mitchell- 6'5" guard who left UIC

https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/s...d-beyond-recruiting-targets/page11#post492983

3-star Alec Oglesby- well-travelled 6'5" guard who left UNCW

Also, some Ex-MVC players-
Keaton Hervey
- 6'7" forward from who left Missouri State

Tyreke Key- 6'3" SG who left Indiana State-

Dusan Mahorcic- 6'10" forward who left ISU a year ago-

There will be more appearing soon.

DC, I know you mentioned Brian might not be as transfer oriented after past experiences, but do you think PG is the most likely position to look at a transfer? In your opinion, do you think Brian is leaning a certain way in terms of looking at transfers, JUCOs, or high school seniors right now for this class if it stays fairly small (2-3)?

With next year being a good team, I would think older players might get more consideration, but it'd be weird to have no freshman in a class.

Just my guess... I think our coaches are in on a couple junior college point guards and that might be the immediate target. Plus they will be attending juco games over the next couple weeks, so other names could emerge.
But if that doesn't get locked in, and if a decent quality point guard becomes available on the transfer portal, they would not hesitate to go in that direction.
Yes, the transfers who arrived 2 & 3 years ago did not work out, but the Mikey Howell move worked out well, IMO.

I am thinking they will sign 3 recruits, and just like last year, the recruiting might not be finished for a couple months.

And Terry Roberts worked out well from the JC route

I definitely think a grad transfer would work perfect for this class. I also view grad transfers as slightly less risky than a regular transfer. Despite my annoyance with Howell’s turnovers, he seemed like a great kid and he filled an important role this year no doubt. I’d sign up for such a transfer again for sure. JUCO seems to be super successful for us too as pointed out. I would think we’d have to seem like a very attractive destination for next year for a transfer or JUCO with what we have coming back and a couple of roles still open to get playing time.

I think we need a pure scorer and/or a sniper that shoots 40%+ from three. Since Nate graduated we have had a glaring hole in the shooting area. Ville never became a consistent shooter. Also with a pure scorer, it would free Terry up to not have to create on every play. I'd like to see them get someone in the transfer portal that scores 15+ in a little bit worse/comparable conference. Heck I don't think it's a high probability or there's really even a chance but I'd take Tyreek key or if he transfers Antonio Reeves. Highly doubt they'd come to Bradley but at least someone like that

Looking at their stats-
Tyreke Key shot 31.6% from three last year, and is coming off a serious injury and surgery to his right shoulder (shooting shoulder)

Antonio Reeves is a 34.8% career 3pt% shooter, though he did have his best season this year at 39%.

Both are volume shooters who would want to take a ton of shots wherever they transfer to. Antonio Reeves lead the MVC in shots attempted, over 15 per game.

A new entry into the transfer portal that Bradley coaches are familiar with-
Kenny Strawbridge- a 6'5" guard originally from Rockford Lutheran HS. Bradley recruited him out of high school as a class of 2018 recruit.
https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/sp...idge#post26891

He committed to UMKC, but redshirted his only season there (2018-19). He then spent the 2019-20 season at Western Nebraska Community College, where he averaged 15 ppg and 5.5 rpg his sophomore season-
https://wnccathletics.com/sports/mbk...dge_kalen_s1ug

He has been at Alabama State the last 2 seasons where he has been a starter and posted good numbers-
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...ny-strawbridge

This afternoon, he entered the portal-
https://twitter.com/portal_updates/s...03294647439361

PS- Yes, I acknowledge he does not fit with Bradley's biggest needs. I am not suggesting that Bradley should recruit any of the names I post.

Might be a tough year for BU to recruit the portal in light of the fact that all 5 starters are returning along with big role players off the bench (Ville and Zek).

Let's hope!

It's a done deal-

FNcO4ZeVQAI48iY

Absolutely ! So let's put him on a pitch count and keep him healthy...keep Jason Kent as a starter with Jashon at 15ish mpg

I'm guessing Henry is not coming back to be on a minutes limitation. I would have to imagine that they have gotten pretty strong assurances he can go all out.
