Bradley 2021-22 schedule

I'm speculating but, Judson may have been a replacement for a school that backed out at the last minute. Not sure if BW has ever scheduled a NAIA school during his tenure at Bradley.

The only NAIA team that Bradley has played in the last 10 seasons was an exhibition game on Nov. 1, 2017 against Robert Morris University of Chicago-
https://bradleybraves.com/news/2017/...on-action.aspx

Robert Morris University merged with Roosevelt University in March of 2020, and dropped the name Robert Morris. Roosevelt is an NAIA school and competes in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, as did Robert Morris until this season. The CCAC is the same conference Judson University plays in.

I see that the Dec game at Mizzou shows tickets available, partial capacity, on ticket reseller sites.

Im in.

I hope some of the other non-illinois schools will allow fans and that perhaps Bradley fans can travel and make some noise in these empty-ish arenas this year.

One of Bradley's early opponents is St. Joseph's on December 5th.
They are playing Kansas right now in the Fort Myers Tip-Off, the same tournament Bradley played in last year in the Sun Coast Arena on the campus of Florida Southwestern College. Kansas is ranked #6 and #5 in the preseason polls, but St. Joseph's is playing them tough. St. Joe's was leading, but now trails 50-49 with about 15 minutes left. The game is on FS1.

I am also hearing that Bradley will probably be participating in the 2021 Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands, which will have a better field than the 2020 was going to have.

As we reported several months ago, Bradley will participate in the 2021 Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, USVI
https://bradleybraves.com/news/2021/...adise-jam.aspx

And the field is a far better field that the 2020 tournament was initially scheduled to be- Bradley (MVC), Brown (Ivy League), Colorado (Pac-12), Colorado State (Mountain West), Creighton (Big East), Duquesne (Atlantic 10), Northeastern (Colonial), and Southern Illinois (MVC), to be held at the University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center from Nov. 19-22, 2021.
All games will be streamed on ESPN3 or ESPN+. The tournament gives each team a guaranteed three games in an eight-team bracket format. The bracket and schedule will be announced at a later date, as well as the women's tournament field.

Bradley and SIU will probably be placed on opposite sides of the 8-team bracket.

Oh, would love to see us beat Creighton in that tournament! Let's hope they are allowing fans by next year. That would be a worthwhile trip!

Just looking at this year's status of the teams pegged to be in the 2021 Paradise Jam with Bradley.
This is going to be a tough tournament for Bradley...
Brown- the entire Ivy League is sitting this season out. Brown was 15-12 in 2019-20, and 8-6 in the Ivy League- tied for 4th.
Colorado is 14-5 overall, and 8-4 in the PAC-12, 3rd place behind USC & UCLA.
Colorado State is 14-4 and 11-3 in the Mountain West. They are ½ game out of the conference lead.
Creighton is one of the top teams in the country. They are 14-5 and 10-4 in the Big East, ½ game in the lead over Villanova
Duquesne is 7-6 overall, and 6-5 in the tough Atlantic 10.
Northeastern is 8-6 overall, but they are 7-1 and in 1st place in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Bradley and Southern Illinois are the only 2 teams that have a losing record so far this season. SIU should be improved next season since they play almost all freshmen and sophomores and will return everyone, plus they will get they big man J.D. Muila back, who is sitting out this season with an injury, and they have possibly the best recruiting class lined up so far for 2021.

The brackets and schedule for the 2021 Paradise Jam have been released-
https://basketballtravelers.com/new...schedule-announced-for-2021-paradise-jam.aspx

Bradley will play Colorado State in the first round of the 2021 Paradise Jam. The game will be Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, at 2:00 pm Eastern (1:00 pm Central.
SIU will play Colorado in their first round match on Friday, Nov. 19, at 9:00 pm Eastern (8:00 pm Central).

Can Bradley hire Ken Golden for a couple of months to organize a fan trip to the Paradise Jam? Either no one else knows how to organize such a trip or they are not willing (or interested) in putting in the time required.

You're right. The trips arranged by Ken were the greatest. I have talked to Ken a couple times recently, and he is enjoying retirement.
The Paradise Jam tournament is being organized and run by Basketball Travelers, Inc., a company out of Washington that runs a lot of similar tournaments in the US and in foreign countries every year, and also arranges pre-season foreign tours for schools.
https://basketballtravelers.com/index.aspx?path=general

I am pretty sure they do not allow the participating schools to arrange their own fan tours, since they are a travel agency and make money from arranging fan tours for all the participating schools.
They will eventually post fan travel information at this web page-
https://basketballtravelers.com/spor...an-travel.aspx

Fans can also make their own arrangements, as I have done in past years for several tournaments that Bradley has played in.

Braves play Loyola Marymount in Las Vegas December 22
https://twitter.com/JonRothstein/status/1400512178214612993?s=20

Nice game! And an opportunity for fans to make a quick trip to Las Vegas.
Loyola Marymount was 13-9 this past season, and 7-5 in the West Coast Conference. They finished 3rd in the WCC behind #1 Gonzaga and #2 BYU. Their RPI was 72, and their NET rank was 99.
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/standings/_/group/29

Their leading scorer was senior Eli Scott who averaged 18.0 ppg, and he recently announced he was returning for next season-

Everytime I see that school name I can't help but remember the offensive juggernaut that was Hank Gathers and Bo Kimble. Does anyone else remember that team and how entertaining they were?

I remember them and their unusually high scoring machine. Didn't Gathers collapse and die on the court or am I confusing him for someone else?

I remember them also. Good Team!! I believe Gathers died of a heart attack at some point but I dont remember if it was during a game or during a pick up game

a little research:
Loyola-Marymount forward Hank Gathers collapsed on the basketball court in the middle of the West Coast Conference Tournament semifinals against Portland after completing an alley-oop.
Gathers’ autopsy revealed he died of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a heart-muscle disorder that restricts blood flow. Earlier that season, Gathers collapsed against UC Santa Barbara. It was discovered he had an irregular heartbeat, and he was subsequently prescribed the beta-blocker Inderal. He was a projected NBA lottery pick.

Thanks for getting the details on Gathers, KillerB.

I remember that being a pretty big story back then. That team was on tv a lot and they were a lot of fun to watch, but now I pretty much only tune in to MVC games, so if something like them comes along again, I'll probably miss it!

I can still vividly recall watching his teammate and best friend Bo Kimble shoot a free throw left-handed to honor Gathers during their NCAA Tournament appearance.

Absolutely! Every single time I do!!

Probably top 10 team in college hoops history of a team that stands out...not quite like the Fab Five, UNLV Reb's '90, the Flyin' Illini, or the ever-famous Laettner-led '92 Dukies.

Maybe on the scale of Korver's 8th seeded Jays in '02-'03, FGCU Dunk City in '15, Syracuse Orange in '87 with the rising freshmen (Douglas, Thompson, Coleman), or Ga Tech under Bobby Cremins with their terrific trio (Anderson, Scott, Oliver).

haha! That was a nice history refresher for some of the most interesting and fun teams to watch over the years, LittleBrave! Well done! :)

Thanks Tommy!

I try to keep my mind fairly fresh of past teams.
Of course I recall the most of our Braves over the last 25+ yrs! (Some I'd really like to forget)

But we stay true to our Braves thick and thin.
