2020 and Beyond Recruiting Targets

We only have one pure point guard and some combo guards. Our freshman point guard needs to develop a shot or everyone will only play him for penetrating. Brown was a distributing/scoring point guard. We could use another scoring/distributing point guard. Didn't I see somewhere that SIU had a couple of point guards coming in next year. Maybe that was another MVC school.

I really think we could use another point guard for next year.

SIU has 2 point guards who were freshmen (Lance Jones & Trent Brown), and so far appear to be returning next year.
And their only 2 commitments for 2020 are point guards- Eric Butler & Dalton Banks

So if Bradley really wants Kellen Tynes, that would seem to be a significant selling point.
However, there may be other PGs they are still involved with, so it's possible we may not be close to anyone committing just yet..

Aren't Thomas and McAdoo both pure point guards, and Nolan can play some point, as well, right?

Either way, I get your point. I'd still like to see them find another one as I don't know much about McAdoo and Nolan right now (though I think at least one of them is going to pleasantly surprise us when (if?) the year gets going).

McAdoo is more of a combo guard, and not really the pure point guard like Coach Wardle likes. But he is competent at PG.
In his sophomore season at Eastern Michigan he averaged 1.5 assists per game.

Another 2020 recruit-
2020 Jayson Kent- 6'5" shooting guard from Oak Forest HS in Oak Forest, IL.

As we noted elsewhere, Jayson Kent just committed to Bradley this morning-
https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/sp...it-jayson-kent

That leaves one open scholarship, and, as of now, it doesn't look like any others will become available. Of course, that could still change.

But here is more good news.....Bradley is ready to close out their 2020 recruiting, and that means they are very close to landing one more outstanding recruit.
Look for the news to come in the next "day or so", if it happens. It will fulfill Coach Wardle's wish list of a wing and a point guard who are both scorers. :)

Based on his highlight video (below), I would love to see Bradley lock up Vashon's Phil Russell as the last recruit. He is super quick, drives to the basket well (and finishes), and can shoot. Very impressive... and that Vashon team is like an all-star team! They are fun to watch.

The pending offer to Sean East was what I was referring to. Bradley was keeping other point guards on hold until they could get an answer from a couple guys, who they had higher on their list.

It looks like it didn't even take a day. :)
Again, our sources are pretty good!

With the two openings filled today, it makes me wonder if any of our players are considering transferring that would create new holes. There aren’t any players I’d want to leave at all, but it’s a reality of 21st century college basketball.

I actually think the depth and quality on next year's team will be the best we've had in many years. Perhaps it will be a possibility that some player(s) will not be happy with playing time. That is always a possibility when a team has a lot of depth. Especially if players are playing behind other guys who are in the same class or younger.
So I'd agree that there will be a possibility of someone leaving over the next couple years. I don't want to see that either, but we know it sometimes happens.

One-time 2020 Bradley recruit Seryee Lewis just committed to Kansas State.
http://verbalcommits.com/players/seryee-lewis

And another former 2020 Bradley recruit, Latrell Wrightsell, Jr. just committed to Cal State Fullerton.
Bradley was not recruiting him any more and was pursuing other point guard options such as Sean East.
http://verbalcommits.com/players/latrell-wrightsell-jr

Bradley has just offered 2020 Norance Berry, a 6'3" guard from Scotland Campus Sports. He is a talented guard with good offensive and defensive skills. He is originally from Cleveland, Tennessee.
http://verbalcommits.com/players/norance-berry

And one other former 2020 point guard recruit that Bradley liked and offered, Norance Berry, just committed to Toledo. Bradley also had him high on their list, but not as high as the point guard they ended up landing.

Interesting that after Bradley got their final two commitments, Amir Rahimzad (SF), Latrell Wrightsell (PG), and Norance Berry (PG) all committed to other schools within a few days. I wonder if any of them were waiting on Bradley. :doubt:

I have heard that is true, specifically the point guards. I do not think Bradley was closely involved with Rahimzad any more. Likewise for Seryee Lewis.

Norance "Tres" Berry was a point guard that Bradley recruited and liked out of Scotland Campus Sports.
But last weekend, a couple days after Bradley filled their final scholarship with a commitment from Sean East, Verbalcommits reported that Berry had committed to Toledo
http://verbalcommits.com/players/norance-berry

But Interestingly, now a Tres Berry tweet suggests he has not made a final decision yet, and that he will announce his decision tomorrow (April 10) at noon. And, he still lists Bradley as one of his 10 finalists-

It does not seem too likely that it will be Bradley, but we'll know for sure tomorrow at noon.

I don't know anything about this kid, but if he's a 2 star recruit and a 6'4" PG, I'd say I'd be pretty excited if he made his way to BU. If Toledo was thought to be his landing spot and turned out not to be, maybe it will be BU since they are the other team at the top of the schools listed. Is that too much of a reach? :D

If we did end up signing this guy, what would that mean for the current roster? We'd have to say goodbye to someone then, right? I wonder who that would be assuming our current walk-on(s) don't have scholarships.

It seems like Bradley's biggest strength the last couple of years is talented players that can play together as a team. We have lost several talented players and have some transfers and an injury sitting out last year. We have 4 more recruits. Without summer practice it may be quite a chore to merge the talents.

The spring sports were cancelled, but correct me if I am wrong, there has not been anything determined about the summer sessions, has there?
It might be optimistic, but I believe there is a chance Bradley will be reopened and there will be players on campus working out at sometime this summer. But even if not, I think every college will be in the same situation as Bradley.

And in normal years, there is actually very little practicing that is allowed during the summer. The NCAA has always allowed summer open gyms and unsupervised scrimmages, but only since 2012 the rules were changed to allow a limited amount of coach & player interaction to organize individual and group workouts, including a maximum of 2 hours of actual practice, termed "skills-related instruction", per week. And the NCAA requires that is be voluntary, not mandatory.
