The reason for low scoring at the MVC tourney has to do with the crappy rims at the Scottrade Center. They are very tight and the balls bounce high over the backboard countless times. I think this hurts the league as well, as the low scoring makes people think the caliber of basketball is not very good. It has been this way for the last 8 to 10 years or so at the Scottrade Center.

I sorta remember one year there was one rim that seemed "bad". Lopsided scoring for teams in games because of a "bad rim" - and I recall hearing it while watching/listening... it sounded funky/funny. LOL!

I'm surprised people are thinking you are joking here. Besides hearing about this the last 8-10 years, you can obviously see that the court is not conducive to high-scoring affairs, and that if a shot is not spot on - either a swish or a little rim, the ball will not have a chance. The shooting background must be a problem too.

True that the overall assessment may go against the league when figuring if a team is NCAA-tourney worthy; however, the best team SHOULD win, or come close, and this didn't happen in 08, 09, 10 - thus, an easy decision to exclude a Valley team from an At-Large bid.

I DO feel that this helps the league when in tournaments AFTER Arch Madness, because rims are more forgiving at other arenas for the most part.
I believe it could have helped UNI last season, and the string of success for the Valley in the mid 2000's.

Good signs for younger teams like EU & UNI to get more post-season experience.
Would like to see MSU get to the Final 4 to send their seniors out with a bang. I felt bad for how they played in Arch Madness, though it was apparent they left everything on the court...including their slew of missed shots.

Manigat is becoming a big key for their success.

AY scoreless in 35 min. BUT 8 assists, 0 TO's.

Lawson finally hits double-digits in scoring with 10.

Little McD - WoW! What a player for the Valley! Hopefully he's not TOO good, or he'll be gone before his senior year.

Yes, I am being totally serious here. The rims and the shooting background is really difficult at Scottrade. You may be right in terms of helping the MVC after this. Look at UNI last year, and Wichita and Bradley in 2006. Those teams had a much easier time scoring when they went to other arenas. I really wonder why they can't get different rims though at Scottrade. It makes for worse basketball I think. It is almost impossible to be a 3 point gunning team to win 3 games in 3 days down there.

This is completely untrue.

All rims (and goal units in whole) used in NCAA competition have to go through a testing process and fall within a very small range of "rebound performance" - or energy absorption. Most facilities (STL included) aim to have them in the middle of this range.

There will be variances from arena to arena, but the rims in St. Louis are just fine.

The shooting background is a factor, since it's a larger arena than any MVC team plays in, but it's not the rims.

The scores last night have more to do with playing an out-of-conference opponent who isn't as familiar with the sets a team runs and who don't play the same defensive style as most MVC teams.
 
I will give you Tyler that you may be right on the rims and it could be all shooting background, but I am personally not buying it. Other conferences play tourney games and they know offensive sets and how to guard and their games don't have the scoring drop the Valley does.

I believe Andrew Warren even commented how the rims down at Scottrade are very tight and if you watch enough games down there you will see atleast 3 to 5 times per game that the ball bounces over the backboard. I think this is more than the once or twice this might happen in a regular game.
 
These were all games that were awarded as HOME games for the Valley hosts...
and none is even a slightly impressive win...
had they lost any of these, they actually would have been BAD losses....

..Rider is RPI 110, SOS 201

I am glad they won -- but even an NCAA play-in game like Clemson-UAB got FAR more coverage and attention (not to mention $$)
-- that's where we need to get a few more Valley teams!
 
Hofstra is a good, good win, especially for UE - that's a team that tied VCU in the Colonial standings. In fact, it's a mini-travesty that Hofstra was forced to go on the road to UE for that one, although I suspect $$$$ came into play obviously.

Murray St is a quality win, RPI be darned.

The other 2 should've been wins, and were.
 
SJSU isn't good, but the rest are teams the finished high in there league. They may not have great computer numbers, but neither did the MVC teams.

UE's win is probably the most impressive as the 6th-place MVC team beating a team that tied for second and got three NCAA teams.

Murray State - OVC Champ at 14-4, 23-9 overall
San Jose State - terrible
Hofstra - Tied for second in the CAA at 14-4, 21-12 overall
Rider - 13-5 in the MAAC (t2nd), 23-11 overall

Man, T! Let's give these Valley teams some props. For as bad a year as the Valley had, I was surprised that everyone won last night.
Rider seemed like the best team in the supposed Tip-Off tourney in which we played. UNI smoked them last night. That, to me, was a surprise (the margin of victory at least). And Evansville's win was impressive. Nice job by Marty Simmons this year to rally his troops that were supposed to have a depleted group and no inside game, picked to finish last in the Valley.
 
All the valley teams were at home last night, so I would expect them to win these games. Glad the valley finally took care of business and won games they were suppose to. It's much better than the alternative.
