Here's a name that has not been mentioned by anyone as far as I know----

KEVIN EASTMAN

While there are probably lots of reasons he might not be a candidate, think about this.

1. He is recognized as one of the great teachers of basketball inthe USA.
2. His coaching and basketball credential are super!
3. Salary could be a problem, but you never know!
4. This would be an opportunity to coach his son.
5. A coach of his stature might be able to prevent possible player/recruit defections.
6. He is a class guy who would certainly meet the academic & player off court development aspects of the job.

I would hope that MC might at least talk to him.

He's done college coaching before. Sure he's enjoying being on the bench for the Celtics as they try to run the table thru the East. Who knows, maybe he'll be a coach of his own NBA team before he comes here?

totally forgot about that one.

Only problem I see, and it's kind of a big one, is that most coaches are trying to move up the coaching ladder. He's almost as high as it goes, why would he go back down it?
 
Rasheed Wallace is going to be a heck of a coach someday down the road in the NBA, so why not give him his first coaching experience of the game?

All jokes aside, Kevin Eastman is the name I hear the most on campus, but that's probably just because students who aren't that into Bradley basketball know Jake Eastman's dad is the white haired guy on the end of the bench of the most televised team in the NBA.

Coach---I understand that there may be some "Bumps" in the road on hiring Kevin but in my experience, if two parties want something to happen, most of the time they can negotiate and work things out to get it done.

I realize I'm "broad brushing" but it seems to me that the very first step could be a phone call from MC to KE to see if there is any interest and if this could be remotely possible.

Please correct me if I am wrong. I remember reading about Eastman's credentials. I believe that he was a very average college coach and coached at the low-major level. Do you have specifics regarding "great teachers in the US"' super credentials, etc. I believe that he is a coach on the Celtics as a result of an impression he made on the head coach regarding his enthusiasm that was witnessed at some type of training camp or something. I don't remember the details. Also as a Celtics coach I don't believe that he specifically coaches the players in practice or in game situations. Da Coach, please correct me if I am wrong. Again, we need to be careful making general comments about the various coaching candidates.

Well like a college football coach before a bowl game when they get a new job, they just leave their old job before the year is over. If both sides really wanted this I'm not sure that would be a deterrent.

For the record- I have heard from many people with college and NBA connections that Kevin Eastman is one of the best and most respected basketball teachers in America. It is one of the reasons he has always been in demand as a coach or assistant, and why the Celtics hired him.
His coaching clinics are rated as highly as anyone's (and there are thousands of people who run coaching clinics). And it is hard to get into them, and they are expensive- that should tell you he's very good.

I was watching him and I thought, ???****, this guy is good. He should be working for the Celtics??¦???

Kevin Eastman spent the majority of his career as an assistant. He was head coach at Belmont Abbey college, north carolina wilmington and washington state. He had a mediocre record as a head coach. He is in charge of player development with the Celtics primarily working with the young players. He does have a very good reputation for developing young players. I could not find anything on his current salary, however, my guess is that it is not out of renge for Bradley.

DC---Thanks for your response on KE. Your well- grounded info reflects exactly what I have learned on the web and heard from others. KE is an outstanding basketball teacher, coach, and developer of young talent. He's a great X & Os guy and would be an outstanding candidate IMO if he has any interest and things could be worked out.

Based upon what many NBA assistants are paid I think he would be in line for a pay raise if he got anywhere close to Les' salary.
 
He has experience as a head coach both in Pac 10 (Washington State) and at mid-major/low-major with UNC Wilmington. He even has experience as an athletic director. Plus, he is thought of well enough as a coach or a teacher that the past 2 years he has been the director/main teacher at the Nike Skills camps for Amare Stoudamire, Deron Williams, Paul Pierce, Kevin Durant and Lebron James. This is a camp for the elite players from around country. So he may have good relationships with alot of young players he could try to recruit?

I don't know, I disagree a little...

He'd bring experience, NBA connections, fundamentals, and he teachers young athletes very well. Running those camps might have introduced him to a lot of good young players too. He's worked with a lot of great NBA players too. I'm not sure what else you can look for in a coach.

I agree. Has anyone looked at his college coaching record. I think that you would be disappointed. I think that we should have higher standards,

Plus like I said in the other thread just look at their roster...all but 1 guy from the MW
 
I'd certainly be willing to give him a chance. Its been a decade since he was a college head coach, he has almost certainly gotten better at being a coach and is very highly regarded. With the right staff, he could be sensational.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner because no one has really mentioned the staff someone can bring or build. In college ball this is very important because a coach cannot go out to scout and recruit every last one of his players. Stan Albeck was a good X and Os guy, had a good staff but for his life or his staff could not recruit a lick. You need a good combination and we need to bring someone who understands this and has the ability to bring in an assistant or two that can help in areas, that the HC has their weakness.
