Dse

DSE is for sure a bright spot in the future of Bradley Basketball, he has quickly become one of the fan favorite players as you could hear in the applause he gets when he checks into the game.

But, I would rather see us with a Daniel Ruffin, Willie Scott or Jim Les type of point guard and I dont think he fits that mold. He will is more suited for the 2 spot and I think would be a better player in that position.

If we had a 6-8 or 6-9 kid that was capable of handling the basketball and passing it, say a Magic Johnson type, a few of you would be clamoring for him to sit on the bench or play center ;-) I still think of the S16 game against Memphis where we got slammed over 4-5 times in a row in the second half. So I guess for some Bradley fans, they think a 6-3 kid can't play point guard, the smaller the better huh. That's no knock on our two current (SM & EM) point guards.

Big game tonight - Purdue at Illinois. Go Illini!

Big game tomorrow at SIU - Go Braves!

Rick I could not agree more. The Memphis players at every position except at the 5 appeared 4-5 inches taller and 40 lbs bigger. They dominated our guard play by being physically bigger but not athletically better. If DSE can prove he can play the 1, better for us!

Also agreed! But, unfortunately, that's the difference between a Major and a mid-Major. We just cannot get that kind of player. I, too, would love to see DSE be that guy. I'm just not sure if that would be the position where he could perform best.

I don"t understand how many times we have to tell people that DSE can play the point guard position and play it very well. he did in high school and led Washington to the state tour. his junior year plus he did it against the best competition in the state , what other proof do you need.

I'm not sayin' DSE can't play PG. I'm just thinking his skills may be better utilized at the 2 guard..... I could be wrong.

Every time dse gets the ball he looks to pass... And I've seen passes out of him I haven't seen since Ruffin was back there. I'm still struggling to see how a guy could be more of a pure PG.

I agree. Just based on the types of passes he does...example the one to Sam Singh against MSU...he looks like he is exactly the type of passer we need as a pg.

Passing is indeed a BIG part of being a pg but so is ball handling specifically breaking the press and getting the ball up court.

NOT saying he can't I just haven't seen him do it yet......(I realize they haven't asked him to)

Well his ballhandling is fine, but you're right, we haven't seen him break press yet. I'll agree with you there SFP. He's brought the ball up a few times, but never under any real pressure. He's got one attribute when he's been running the point that I really like in a PG: he does not dribble too much. It's a four or five steps most before he's passing.

If DSE can do it, then I say great let him. I have to agree with others though, I have not seen him handle the ball to the level that is needed from a pg.

Ok, I'll put my two cents in on this...for what it's worth. ;)

DSE can play PG (he played that position in HS), but he's not being asked to play that position at BU. He's playing on the wing, and is guarding wing players on the defensive end.

BU has SM and EM at PG. They are doing the lion's share of the ballhandling.

But as anyone can plainly see, DSE has ball skills. He can split the double team, drive to the basket, finish at the rim or dish for an assist. Those are PG skills.

I don't see DSE as a 2 guard. He is not a pure shooter. His strengths are penetration and defense.

IMO, DSE is a combo guard. He may become more of a PG when SM graduates, but his skills enable him to be a combo guard in the BU system.
