Mental or Physical

Me thinks its mental.

Lasts nites game would have been huge and would have gone a long way in solving those problems....now it just got worse.

These guys are thinking, or at least they WERE thinking the last couple minutes vs reacting.

The team looked like they were playing not to lose. They were not playing as they were earlier when they were winning. It happens everytime. Bradley has done it in several games that they lost this year.......playing not to lose.

It's because of injuries and the bad crowd.

While I love your sarcasm...:)...I would say injuries play a small role for sure. I mean DSE and Dodie would give us some toughnes and defense for sure.

With that said this team psychological well being is, well, not well.

I think it's mostly mental, though as I mentioned elsewhere, I think SM is having a health issue. Physically we were as talented as SIU. What we gave away at the point, we had at the 4 and 5 positions.

When the going got tough, they couldn't handle the pressure D. They didn't see a lot of double teams and inbound pressure D. Then in the last 2 minutes, boom, the D stepped up and they just couldn't handle it. Lack of focus and preparation. But it never should of came down to that in the first place.

Mental is the answer. EM should have played much bigger minutes, we had the chance of going inside at will and started chucking up poor shots. If SM is beat up that would tell me his conditioning is not at 100% so rest him a bit more. EM also was very disruptive on D. Why we did not go big for any stretch is confusing. I know they have quick guards but we would have been able to decimate their inside players with fouls.

99.9% mental ... and maybe some bad tactics.

if it was physical, than the big leads would not have been initially created before the team collapsed in each of the last 3 games.

The team had better be up mentally for WSU and ready to play a full 40 minutes of basketball.

I would put it around 90% mental. There is a factor of fatigue because Jim isn't getting anything out of his bench lately, and the injuries shorten his rotation.

That is why EM should have logged in more minutes during the game so SM could be fresh at the end......:-o

fatigue? dillard and freeman played 37 minutes each. more than any brave. they certainly didn't look fatigued when they were stealing the ball and nailing threes late in the game.are we not in shape?

Had BU given the ball to Warren,Roberts or Brown to bring up the floor against pressure they would have won because those 3 players were not going to be double teamed and lose the ball, they are bigger and would have either brought the ball up on their own or passed over the top of a double team because of their size. That is why I cannot understand the reasoning of having Sam our shortest player with the ball in the backcourt trying to overcome a double team and get the ball in the front court plus Dillard is so much quicker then him. You cannot put your players in a position to fail or you end up with bad results.

I've got to go with physical, not mental. It just seems that every team, that we have lost to in our big games the past 2 1/2 seasons, has bigger, heavier players that push us around under the basket. And I'm not just talking about Bradley, you can make the same case for Illinois.

Real_fan I would not give the ball to any of those guys in the back court. SM was fatigued simply put! He was the right guy to have the ball but he should have been rested for the last 2 minutes simply put.

well today you are correct.....

WE.......19 mins...2 pts in the paint, 2 FTs and 1 rb
SS........22 mins...zero pts and 4 rbs
AT........12 mins...2 pts in the paint, 2 FTs and 1 rb

That should be the combined stats for one center in this MVC...(4 pts in the paint, 4 FTs and 6 rbs)

I only saw the last 5 minutes of the game. Minutes logged would indicate that there were at least two bigs on the floor together for at least 13 minutes of the game. How did the team perform at those times?

I would have liked to see AT get more minutes. Hopefully, we'll see more of him and less of SS as the season progresses.

Today WSU's BIGS were just too big and physical for any of the Braves to handle.....I would like to get another BIG player to help handle the inside...next season we lose our heaviest big in SS @ 240-245.....WE=220 and AT=211 with TB=205 and JP=220....next season we will still get pushed around unless something changes!

Couldn't agree more. You can't win in college basketball unless you can hold your own inside. Our one year of having solid inside play was our NCAA year. After that year, we have always played an undersized 5 and 4. Even in a year when we shot lights out from the arc, we only made the NIT. In Bradley's case, as with the the other MVC teams, you are not going to get the ready-for-prime-time high school players. Therefore, for Bradley to win games in the NCAA tournament, which is the objective I have for the program, you have to have a coaching staff that is highly competent developing big men.
