Another Bradley vs Illinois game

Does the BU victory over Illinois encourage a rematch between the two sooner than later? 'Bragging Rights' in the Heartland can be loud and significant.

That's exactly what I was thinking last night, you would think they would want to get the 'Bragging Rights' back. Maybe a home and home, and don't play them unless it's a home and home. And since now that we have the 'Bragging Rights', the first home game would be in Peoria next season. Or maybe what we did when we had that 3 year series with them, play home and home, and a game at the United Center in Chicago - I was at that game.

I don't think we are going to be playing Illinois anytime soon, unless it is in some postseason tournament that they have no control over.

It might work if one or more corporate sponsorers put in enough $ to make it happen, but I'm guessing that the Illini want more than we can give in terms of gate revenues. Or startup some form of a St Jude classic to get more TV involvement?

no way...it'll be a decade before Illinois will come anywhere near BU again and you can bet they won't wanna play SIU either..

BTW- here are a few facts about BU beating Illinois and other ranked teams...
http://bubravesblogger.blogspot.com/

one more thing...ever notice that the campus newspaper never writes about anything positive in regards to BU,
only when there's something negative..
anyone have an explanation??

No, I think it just reminded them why they dont want to play us........

Unfortunately, this is true. After the game, Coach Weber told people he would never again play in a midseason tournament where he could end up playing another Illinois school. I suspect this also means he won't be willing to schedule such a school any time soon.

Too bad Illinois does not copy our neighbor state. Iowa plays other D1 schools every year. I know pressure was applied, but for what ever the reason, it happens...

With a sales background, I work with my reps to sell the positive aspects of our products and not to dwell on downgrading the competition. Our customers seem to find that approach refreshing. Especially when our product is far superior. Just a thought.

I guess you need to do what you preach to your sales staff. Not all of your posts have been positive!

and why would he? This series/game would do nothing good for the U of I.

If you win, you gain little with the RPI. If you lose, well it's obviously bad in many ways.

Illinois gains nothing from a BU series.

I most certainly agree that comments should be monitored and censored when lines are crossed, same with any message board or "comments section" at the end of online articles... doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed at all...JMO though

And its his blog... he can obviously do whatever he wants with it...just curious why no comments at all...

Its funny how it works for "mid major" teams like the valley isn't it? First the NCAA doesn't think we're good enough to be in the NCAA tournament with 20 to 25+ wins, yet these "BCS" schools don't want to schedule us because they know we can and sometimes will be beat them. I think that fact proves that the NCAA is trying to weed out non-BCS schools, rather than them not being good enough. Yet the miracle stories are the best stories the tourny has in my opinion. I also think Coach Les has been scheduling very well despite big schools trying to avoid Valley teams. We seem to always have a chance at least at a marquee game....Illinois, Ok St, Florida, Butler, Vandy, Michigan St. I also think Illinois teams should play each other, it'd be good for the state...if Illinois is sooo superior to us, then why don't they just prove it and avoid the "bad loss" we would bring! If they are that much better, like most Illini fans and the media portray, they have nothing to worry about anyway.

Not picking on you....

I just want to point out, in the 2007 season, Illinois' BEST Non-Conference win that season was over #38 Bradley in the RPI. Their next best win in the Non-Conference was over #92 Miami-Ohio and then #93 Missouri.

In the B10, they beat only the bottom 3 teams in the conference on the road (#190 Minnesota at 3-13 in B10; #177 Northwestern 2-14; and #199 Penn St 2-14)

Illinois was on the bubble that season with a fairly weak resume (which had some nice wins at home and even with their lofty #29 RPI) but got an At-Large as a #12 seed... likely one of the last few teams in.

It helped to beat a non-conference top 50 RPI team (Bradley) on a neutral floor that year.

My post mentions that we just had the best win for the program in three years and we should be embracing that instead of running down other schools and it gets deleted. Why?

Bullcrap. All the other BT schools play in-state rivals every year because they aren't chickensh*ts. Illinois has had this baseless fear of any team in this state with a pulse since the Henson era. Their logic is "we have nothing to gain". Baloney! How about gaining experience for your team against a non-cupcake team? It's gutless is all it is.

Ding, ding, ding we have a winner.
