WTVP to televise Bradley games for 2010-2011

It stinks for people outside of Peoria but it makes sense for Bradley. You are still on locally 10 times a year and will less expensive than the Comcast thing.

I think it stinks for BU in general. It is hard to recruit and promote BU when you aren't even on regionally...

The broadcast team has not been announced yet, but I am hopeful it will be a team fans will like.

Beautiful. This opens up these games to every single TV owning person in the Peoria metro area. Much better than 33% or whatever dwindling subscriber rate comcast holds. Although if they could work a deal to get every road game on WTVP, that'd be even better.

I'll take reaching 33% of people in central IL plus chicago over all of Peoria any day, unfortunately...

It is good to see us get a TV deal, but we had seemed to be gaining exposure, now it seems were heading in the wrong direction. Gotta make the most of the ESPN family time as well as the one game on FSN.
 
Guess I'll be watching more Bears games than Braves games. :(
I will have to figure out the best month to get BU-TV in order to watch 4 games or so aside from ESPN 2 games. It's hard to get good streaming too. Very disappointed.
 
Although it doesn't specify in the article, I believe local DirecTV subscribers will be very happy about this. Finally them, along with Comcast subscribers, should be able to watch BU basketball on TV (if you get locals on DTV). Yes it will be bad for Chicago-based alums, but unfortunately I think last year was an anomaly than the beginning of something regionally as far as BU on TV goes.

Yeah....and I'm not entirely sold on the idea of recruits coming to Bradley just because they saw a game on television. I happen to think we do pretty well with recruiting and now we have a Chicago guy on the staff. I'm not sure how many current Braves watched a game on tv and then decided they were interested in coming here. I'd like to think it has more to do with the staff pursuing these kids and getting them here to watch a game in person.

I'm not saying it is the direct cause. But if you're trying to sell a brand of basketball, and SIU, and Butler basketball are on all over the midwest regularly, and BU plays to a region bounded by Bloomington and Galesburg, we're at a distinct disadvantage. Getting ESPN+ deals, FSN regional deals, or a comcast deal, is a big step for a program. Thusly, this is a step backwards, to me, its tough to pretend otherwise.

It's tough for me to swallow, because I think this is our most talented team in the last decade, maybe two, save our Sweet 16 team.

I completely agree that it's a shame more people won't be able to see this team in action, especially the BU alums around the state.
 
Great news for me as I went back to Direct TV because of MLB as they have more Extra Innings channels, now I can watch at home on my 60 inch screen when I choose to instead of trying to scramble all over town to get a seat in a sports bar .

Well said! While I am glad that I will be able to see more televised games, ignoring the Chicago market is another decision that does not make sense especially when a goal by the administration is to promote the Bradley brand! (assuming nothing further is in the works)

I am very excited to be able to catch games on WTVP!!!!!!

BUT

according to the article, these games will be on WTVP World, digital subchannel 47.2

Since DirecTv does not rebroadcast subchannels, you can only get 47.2 via the free, OTA (over the air) signal using your TV's digital tuner with an acceptable antenna, or by adding a DirecTv AM-21 box as the external tuner to your DirecTv box (again using an external antenna). DirecTv may send you a free AM-21 if you insist on needing subchannels.

Now, the problem with WTVP is a lack of bandwidth (19.2 mbps shared with 3 channels), so sports may look.... well, "look" may be overstating the picture quality on high motion sports. It would probably look much better on any smaller TV. It has to still be better than bu.tv the past few years!
