Well, we will have a little summer basketball to follow....

Ville Tahvanainen and his Finnish National Team team are headed to Latvia (about 225 miles south of Helsinki)
...as they begin some tuneup games before theWorld University Games Championships in July.
They play the Latvian National Team at 7pm local time today (that would be 11am our time)
https://www.suomikoris.com/2019/06/1...-olemaan-kova/

"The Summer 2019 University Games will be played from 3rd to 11th of July in Naples, Italy"

The U18 Championships are July 27 - August 4, 2019 - in Volos, Greece - http://www.fiba.basketball/europe/u18/2019

...they play again on Monday nite vs. Ukraine
The Finnish team won again Monday night - scoring the final 10 points to take a 75-68 victory..

we now have stats on both games...

Sunday's game - 77-62 win over Latvia - https://www.basket.fi/basket/maajou...pailut/ottelu/?game_id=266801&season_id=28475
Monday's game - 75-68 win over Ukraine - https://www.basket.fi/basket/maajou...pailut/ottelu/?game_id=266803&season_id=28475

Ville did not play in either game so it is possible he is not with the team for some reason...
there are also some U18 friendly games being played - he may be with the other team...their next U18 game is June 27 vs Denmark at 1:30pm local time

The World University Games are held every other year...
the 2019 version will be held in Naples, Italy July 3-14, 2019

The team from the USA will be the Clemson University basketball team taking a summer exhibition tour...
and interestingly - Clemson is IN THE SAME POOL AS FINLAND - so they will face each other very early in the tournament

four silvers and three bronze medals since the inception of the games in 1965.
The USA won gold in 2015 (led by Kansas), but hadn't won gold previously since 2005."

"Clemson will open pool play against Finland on July 4 at 8 p.m. local time (2 p.m. ET)."

Ville is still listed as being on the World University roster...so I do not know why he did not play any minutes in either of those games earlier this week..
I sure hope it is not due to injury

they next play vs. Canada on June 27 and again on June 28
Then they begin the actual World University Games competition on July 4 vs. USA (Clemson)

Ville is not listed on the roster of either the National U18 or National U20 teams

Good news....
Finland National team that is headed for the World University Games
CLOBBERED Canada today in the tuneup game 103-85, and Ville had 13 points on 5-9 including 3-5 from 3-pt range
...he also had 3 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal and a rebound - all in just 18 minutes
Only 3 players played more as the Finnish team spreads the minutes around - the Finnish team was led by Ville's league teammate Mikael Jantunen with 23
Munis Tutu had 15 for Canada

The same teams play again tomorrow

Great news again!
Finland beats Canada again, 93-81- now their nexct game is in the World University Games against Clemson
..that game will be at 1pm Thursday July 4

Ville had 7 pts today

update - a week before they are to play, Clemson has a setback -
during one of their practices for this exhibition tour- one of their more experienced returning players,
Clyde Trapp, just tore his ACL and is feared will be out for the entire upcoming season.
One of the serious risks of running a lot of intense practices during the summer...

Injuries can happen at any point, but I would not be upset if Ville decides to stop playing and come to Peoria. Would had to have to major injuries to foreign commits.

1st quarter score Finland trails 21-11
Ville has 2 pts thus far

unfortunately none of the group play games are being streamed- only when they get to quarterfinals

after trailing early by double digits Finland battles back and enters the 4th quarter trailing only 49-47

Former Bradley recruit and incoming Clemson freshman Alex Hemenway was fouled on a made 3-pointer
and completed the 4-point play for a 69-65 Clemson win over Finland

unfortunately the official World University Games website is horrible and they keep reverting to blank pages,
so I can't see any of the statistics - probably will have to wait for the Finland site to update and have them.

the stats show that all 12 players for Finland played significant minutes and all players scored.
Ville ended with 5 pts.

Finland pulls even at 1-1 with a 105-65 clobbering of China
Ville had just 4 pts as everyone played and scored...

They play Ukraine tomorrow at 1pm - the US pulled off a close 58-57 win over Ukraine after blowing a double digit lead in the 4th quarter.
A win tomorrow by Finland will advance them to the medal round and begin play Monday in the knockout round.
The bottom two teams in each group play for places 9-16.
