RIP Ken Goldin

I heard sad news today. Ken Goldin passed away yesterday (Tuesday, March 7) at the age of 86. Many here might have met or known Ken. I have known him very well for about 50 years. Ken held several jobs at Bradley after he graduated in 1964, the last 33 years was as the business manager of the university. But he was also intricately involved in the basketball program for many years. He was a long-time emcee at Bradley basketball luncheons and banquets, and he hosted numerous fan trips through the years, which I and my kids helped assist him with on a few occasions. But most of all, Ken will be remembered by those who knew him as just a wonderful person who always took time to answer calls and requests, and always treated people with respect.

Ken Goldin in so many ways WAS Bradley University.

I had the pleasure of having a conversation with Mr. Goldin while I was a resident of Geisert Hall during the mid-80's. At the time, it hadn't occurred to me the gravity of meeting with Bradley's Director of Housing. Ken and I had a wonderful chat and he recognized my "transgression" for what it was and encouraged me to locate better outlets for my "youthful exuberance" - which I did.

Ken also organized Bradley Men's basketball road trips for students and fans to support the team on the road. A good friend of mine and I attended the 1988 Bradley's NCAA tournament loss to Auburn in Atlanta. Ken (and staff) organized this and from my perspective everything went without a hitch.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Ken's family.

He was simply a terrific, thoughtful man who will be missed.

That's great that you got to know Ken so well. I was also fortunate to become a friend of Ken's. I've known him since I was a student 50+ years ago, and we worked together on projects going as far back as the 1980's. He helped me accumulate a lot of Bradley memorabilia over the years, some of which are now on display in the Hayden-Clark Alumni Center's Shaheen Hall of Pride (the 1st floor museum) and in the Burklund Family Heritage Museum on the 1st floor of the Renaissance Coliseum. If fans have not visited both of these great displays, I'd strongly advise you do so. Ken played a big part in finding and acquiring many of the pieces in those collections.
