New Look website

Hey Coach,

Nice work on the new website look. I know there was a thread for these type of questions, but couldn't find it so posting a new one, so hope that's ok.

I can't seem to find the option to show the latest posts first when opening a new thread. Can you point me in the right direct to do that, by chance?
 
Thanks, Tommy. I deleted that other thread, since nobody had any complaints.
There are a few small differences from the old board, but most are easy to navigate and I think fans will like this board a lot.
Each member can set their own preferences, if they want. Click on your name in the upper right, and select "Preferences". The column on the left then includes a lot of different settings that can be changed or customized.
To view the latest post in a thread, click on the time posted on the right side of the thread you are opening.
I hope that answers your question. If not, let me know.
And, if anyone else has any questions, please contact me or post here in this thread. If you click on any poster's name, it will allow you to send a Direct Message to that member.

One new feature that some might like to try is the option to switch to "Dark Mode" for viewing the website at night or while you are in a dark room.
All the way at the bottom left of every page, is a small circular icon. If you click on it, you can choose one of three settings-
> System (the setting the website has as default),
> Light Mode (same as System), or
> Dark Mode
Dark Mode takes a little getting used to, but it can be easier on the eyes if you view the website a lot while in the dark.

I am still learning a few things about this new Xenforo message board software. There is another way to jump to the newest posts in a thread.
I just noticed that if you click on the title to any thread that has new posts (the title will be in bold), it automatically takes you to the new posts!
These software guys think of everything!

I did catch that. One problem I see is that you do have to go back to the top and click on the Basketball Fan Talk Link to go back or it doesn't mark the thread as read. Not a big deal and the look of the forum is really nice now.

When you do a search, click on the "Advanced Search" option. On that page, you can set the search for a specific time range, or set it to list results by Relevance or Date. The default setting for searches is Relevance, so you would need to change it to Date to see the most recent matches first.

Tommy, I don't believe this is true, at least not for me.
When you get to the bottom of a thread, there is a hyperlink string at the bottom (see image below) that you can click on to return to the Basketball Fan Talk & Other Sports Forum, or to the Main Menu page. If you do so, the thread you were reading should be marked as read.

There are still some things that need to be done to complete the changeover to this new website.
So just to prepare users, there could still be some downtime in the next few days.

In addition to the all-new software, we are moving the website to a new web-server company so we can handle the massive amount of traffic we get on Bradleyfans. 😬

By the way, next time anyone posts anything, be sure to check out all the new smilies and emojis that are available here on the toolbar across the top of the text box. 🦖🎂🏀🚔🧯🇺🇸
 
Update.... My opinion is that there are too many ads on this new board. We are using the same Google Ad Service with the same settings as before, but for some reason it generates more ads here than on the old board and they are bigger. We have had the settings set for the minimum number of ads per page, which has been 6 per page, but it still seems a bit too much.
So, we tried tweaking some manual settings a little and it appears the number of ads is slightly reduced. Let me know if it looks ok, or if you still think there are too many ads. 🤪

I am liking the new message board software we switched to back in May, Xenforo. I am still learning some of the differences, but it seems to be working well. If anyone has questions or finds anything difficult or annoying, please let me know.

Explanation of all the ads... The ads are placed by Google Ads and, like nearly all internet ads, are targeted differently to each user based on the cookies which every browser stores (unless you use a Private or Incognito mode) and those indicate which other websites the user has visited. We have the settings adjusted to block out offensive ads like anything racy, dating ads, or anything connected to gambling, porn, etc. But if anyone is seeing any offensive ads, let me know. We have already turned off some of the ones that Google likes to place like popup ads, overlay ads (ones you have to close to read the board), vignette ads (full screen ads that appear between page loads), and the really annoying ads that appear right in the lines of the text.
I have played around with the number of ads and the placement. Google has reduced the revenue share they give to website owners and it drops too low if we reduce the number of ads more than the current settings. The cost of the website de-bugging and renovation and the new software was substantial. So we'd like to leave the ads at the current settings, which looks like it just covers those costs along with the ongoing costs of web hosting, maintenance, and software updates. Plus, any ad revenue we do get is taxable, which further assures there is no profit in the end. The other option would be subscription fees or begging for contributions, and that is not an acceptable option. I know they can be annoying, but they are a necessary evil.
On the plus side, the website traffic has been extremely high with the start of the basketball season, so that helps, since it factors into the ad revenues. :)

I dont mind the ads especially when they help pay for this website. This site is such a powerful communication tool for all the die hard Bradley fans.Thank you

I might add it is just not the die hard Bradley fans on here but I see people from other mediums getting on here. That shows respect for the information on here
 
I appreciate the adjustment on the types of ads. There were some things that were coming across that I felt weren't appropriate and would have been worried if someone saw my screen. These have basically stopped now and the ads are not too intrusive at all.
 
I check our opponents' message boards (if they exist) and some of them get game info off BradleyFans
