Some information has leaked out about the voting for this year's Major League Baseball Hall of Fame voting. With 39.9% of the votes known, Bartonville's Jim Thome received votes on 94% of the ballots in his first year on the ballot! It looks like Chipper Jones, also his first year on the ballot, was the only player receiving a higher percentage of votes so far. A player on the ballot must receive votes on at least 75% of the ballots to be elected into the Hall of Fame. The other 3 players receiving more than 75% (Vladimir Guerrero, Edgar Martinez, & Trevor Hoffman) were returnees who did not receive enough votes last year.

Final voting results will be announced January 24. Electees will be inducted Sunday, July 29 in Cooperstown, NY.
