Not to minimize what might still happen, but it is looking like the people in the Miami area and along the Atlantic coast are not going to get hit with the high winds and high storm surge that was originally predicted there by every model this past week.
But now it could be those along the Gulf Coast, who thought they were safer, who are now at increased risk for the worst of Hurricane Irma.
I talked to former BU Athletic Director Ken Kavanagh Friday morning. He lives in Fort Myers, and as of Friday morning he was feeling pretty good about the predictions that spared Ft. Myers and the Gulf Coast from the worst of the winds and flooding. Nonetheless he was trying to find wingnuts to bolt the storm panels that came with his house over the windows, and which he had never needed to use before now.
However, in the current projections, Fort Myers is now in the direct path of Irma. Let's hope they all stay safe.
