Final score: Bradley 84 Northern Illinois 55

the silly timeout promotions do bring in advertising and sponsorship dollars....
in this day and age, we need all we can get.

I certainly agree with that...but as I sit here I can't tell you who sponsors what promotion other than the papa johns one...and Ive missed one home game the last 25 years...can't we find a way to mention these companies and or promote them other than the nonsensical promotion...just mention their name and say this Bradley Band song brought to you by: so and so....or this timeout brought to you by: bla bla bla

Fly a blimp around the whole timeout with their name on it, just don't kill the momentum, keep the fun up!!

Probably just as effective...

How do you guys feel about the silly promotions we have?....I hate when BU is on a roll and force the other team into a timeout, the crowd is rocking, and then we have some silly promotion which nobody cares about and kills the mood..... (Crutch Race, layup contest that the announcer doesn't even keep track of who's made the basket, that's when the band needs to play and play LOUD, but the pre written activity script must be followed. I'd keep the promotion with the half court shot, and that's about it...find another way to mention the sponsors..nobody pays attention to the stunt part anyway.

Also, I would move the Caterpillar Recognition of a Veteran to the first half as well. While I do think it's important to honor those individuals for their service and feel its a must to keep during the game, it feels more appropriate in the first half as well....again, its a crowd stopper in the second half....and it SHOULD BE to properly honor the veteran, but for the sake of the team, we need to keep the crowd engaged when we can.

My opinions.......like to hear others, and I'm not gonna be offended if anybody disagrees so please tell me how you guys feel
It is hard to time these things up. When a timeout gets called and the game is due for a media timeout, it can feel like its killing the rally. I don't disagree that there should be a way to incorporate the band and such. But theres a lot of money behind the promos. And a lot of times, if someone makes a half court shot or sinks a 94 foot putt, the crowd gets more jazzed than anything that has happened in the game to that point.

On the other hand, they ran out a "Bradley fans make some noise!" bit coming out of a timeout - except that coming out of the timeout, Montana was shooting free throws. A big oooof.

Not one to miss a chance to offend you, DR1, but I hate to admit that I agree with everything you said. Another day, my friend, another day.

Regardless of the excuses people want to make, I find it impossible to understand how Bradley can have basically no student section at games. It doesn't take that many fans to make a student section have some real impact. I mean, I used to go to games at places like Loyola with a few friends and we could get "BU" chants going in an opposing arena. Bradley can't find 25-50 kids that could be "ambassadors" to help grow it back up? Take a few and make them "influencers" - which is what kids follow all the time these days - and use their power to grow it up.

You could make it a project for someone in the Comm department who is wanting to go into Multimedia. There are just so many ways ...

The reality is that "influence" is easier than it has ever been - you don't need to pay for billboards on the highway or TV ads to garner attention. You just need someone to actually the time and the energy in to it. (And it can't be a one time thing, you need to be consistent in your push.)
Good points

I met with Dave Snell and two members of promotions for Bradley over 2 years ago and gave them over 25 ideas to get the crowd more interested at time outs and before the game. I used to have Bulls tickets and although we don’t have the money that the United Center has for promotions, there is a room for improvement. No real progress has been made. I paid for Jim Cornelison to sing the National Anthem a few years ago. There are a lot of simple things that could be done, but I am not optimistic that things will improve.

Yes. I agree. Since most students don’t care to attend, give out free tickets to the general public. The Civic Centrr will make some money with concessions.

Sorry but free tickets to general public would be a killer. Nobody wants to pay for stuff you give others for free so ticket revenue goes way down which impacts the money available for the program. And BU does not get revenue from the concessions so there is nothing but hurt to the university…..

Going back to the eighties, it’s my understanding there was decent student involvement when they could walk across campus to the fieldhouse. When they moved downtown, the students protested and vowed to never go to carver. I was a student shortly after that time and no one wanted to “go downtown “.

A few years back there was the Red Sea. This got a few kids to come. But like most things related to the game day experience at Bradley, the person in charge left and whoever replaced them didnt know about the tradition, or felt they would start a new one because that’s what they did at their previous job. Or it’s just easier.

I doubt they will ever get rid of the stupid contest during time outs. Those are all sponsored which means revenue.

I know it will never happen, but it would be nice to get our students as involved on game night as they do at NAIA Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, especially for their "Silent Night" game.
Here is an explanation- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_University#Silent_Night

BTW, Taylor won the game 118-33

Holy crap. How did nobody get hurt in that? 😂

Great to see the team get a win. Now for the only bad stat is Bradley again gets out rebounded once again. First half it seemed Northern Illinois were getting more than their fair share of offensive rebounds. Wardle and staff are continuously stressing the importance of boxing out and proper positioning to get out fair share of rebounds. Conference season is soon upon us and need to show more improvement in that area. Team has eight days until the next game. During this time until next game, hope coaching staff continues to stress the importance of having a better presence under the basket. "LET'S GO BRAVES"

OMG Dubb - I was thinking about this several times last night - even on drive back home! It's so unnecessary and commercial and really takes away from the tension of the game. It seemed so bad last night. Do something 1x per half and that's IT! Let's continue to honor military tho!
