BU lands Josh Ibukunoluwa

Here is the info we posted about Josh yesterday in the Recruiting thread. He was reported to be on a visit to BU-
D1 portal- Joshua Ibukunoluwa - a 6'10" sophomore forward at High Point University. He is originally from Perth, Australia and played in the Australian NBL pro league with the Willetton Tigers. He also attended Orangeville Prep in Ontario, Canada. He has played limited minutes in his 2 seasons at High Point.

Incredible work by Coach Wardle and the staff. Bradley needed to replace 4 graduating seniors, plus 6 players who entered the transfer portal. Bradley had three earlier quality commitments from Race Kowalczyk, Ben Thornbrue, and Noah Williams, which left 7 open roster spots. But in the last week, they have landed 4 more high quality recruits- Trevon Payton, Georgi Gerganov, Kyle Grill, and Josh Ibukunoluwa.
The recruiting job done by the Bradley staff far exceeds the results from any other MVC team.
And there are still 3 available scholarships by my count. Next season keeps looking better and better!

Steal one from High Point!
hits 63% of hits shots and shoots almost 70% on FT's- and 3.89 GPA!
Just needs some coaching and more experience....

BTW- High Point's roster has 18 players on it (two of which are former MVC players)-- how is that possible the carry 18?

In his interview last week on WMBD, Coach Wardle said he would fill two open scholarships with quality big men, then
hold the other one open for the time being. He did not explin why he only had 3 scholarships when by our count there were four
(and now 3). But presumably, he is holding the open one in case of some quality options become available late summer or fall or overseas.

I'm very excited that Coach believes we have far exceeded all other MVC teams in getting quality players in the portal! I'm not sure exactly the difference an international player can gain in NIL, but if that's an advantage money wise for BU, I hope we can get more Intl.players! It will be fun to see are talent play out next year!

Have to give Wardle and staff the benefit of the doubt. As earlier posted he played little in his two seasons before committing to Bradley. Coaching staff obviously see potential there that as fans we may not see. Hope he works out as expected. Interesting to see who else they will bring in to help for next year which is only about six months away. Will be here before you know it.

Not sure about this one...seems like a guy who won't see the court much - kinda like Handy. Need another center who can step in right away. No more projects.

Agree. if he wasn't seeing the court at Highpoint I don't expect too much. Its a body in practice and a body to put in in case of injury or foul trouble.

High Point was one of the best MMs last year, so I would assume the hope is that he just needs some runway to take off.
True, but he is a big ? and we need to stay away from those going fw. Need guys who have proven to be solid the past year or 2, and I think Wardle has gotten a handful of these.

Not seeing the court is an understatement. He averaged only 6 minutes/game in 16 games played. His averages (2.8 ppg, 2.0 rpg) if changed to points and rebounds per 40 minutes look a lot better- 17.5 points per 40 and 12.5 rebounds per 40 in 2025-26.

He actually played more his freshman year (9.4 mpg), and his averages were slightly better- 3.1 ppg and 2.7 rpg.
In per 40 stats- 19.4 points per 40 and 16.9 rebounds per 40 in 2024-25.

Those are pretty good numbers, but probably mostly accumulated in late-game bench time.

I've heard that his former coaches liked him a lot. I trust our staff feels the same.
I saw a lot of HPU fans wishing him well and talking about his character on xitter. Didn't see anything remotely close to that re: Handy, I don't think the comparison there sticks. I like this signing a lot, but still think Thornbrue is our (first game) starting 5.

I’m liking this group-a mix of veterans and youth. Coach Wardle didn’t moan or complain about the portal and NIL. We are fortunate to have him!

Thornbrue is a solid player. Not flashy but does all the little things that make him very efficient. I see why Wardle likes him

The talk about bigs is minimum asking price is 3 mil. Our nil budget for the whole team is around 1/3 that, so getting a proven big is pretty much out of the question unless you might have a couple million in your back pocket. Wardle has done a good job getting giidbtalent in here with our nil budget. This kids high light videos look good and there is something there for the coaches to work with. Keep in mind this too, our rotation is usually around 10, we are at 12 rostered right now.
