that's interesting....

Bradley had pursued a kid named Brant Byers and recruited him vigorously as far back as 2020 when Byers was just a high school sophomore.
Byers is a very similar player to Almar - both 6-8, play inside & outside and rely a lot on 3-pt shooting.
Bradley reportedly offered in November 2020 and Byers made a visit to Bradley.
Then - two years ago in 2023 - when Byers did an additional year of prep school, Bradley stepped up their recruiting and "offered him" again and he made an official visit!

but once Bradley had Almar locked in, they possibly backed off Byers and Byers landed at Miami (OH), where he put up
pretty good numbers this past season as a freshman - 8.4ppg, 49.5% FG shooting and 41.4% frpm 3-pt, plus the fewest turnovers of anyone who played in their rotation. He was awarded the MAC Freshman of the Year Award

Now Almar will be at Miami and playing alongside Byers. I gotta think if Byers ever lands in the portal, our staff will be on him.

Almar Atlason.

Good for you. Lad...

The sophomore year is most often the hardest ..
I am glad to see that you have landed on your feet.
Study. Work hard. Compete,
Graduate. Play in Europe. Or at your ceiling..
We will follow you in Ohio.
Once a Brave. Always a Brave..

I think that's great, but I also think it's why he failed to develop while at Bradley. Almar, more than most, would have really benefited by spending the summer working in the weight room and on nutrition. Because of him spending his summer away from his college team, I would not expect him to have a break-out year this year.

I agree because he definitely needed to get stronger and work on his agility.

The Iceland Men's National Team has now completed their first two friendly games in Italy.
Saturday they lost 87-61 to Italy, but in that game Almar was one of Iceland's top scorers with 10 pts ( three 3-pointers) in his first ever Senior Men's international match.
Today they played Poland and lost a close game 92-90 - no stats yet on this game. They play Senegal tomorrow.

The Iceland Men's National Team has now completed their first two friendly games in Italy.
Iceland played another friendly warm-up game to the FIBA Eurobasket 2025 yesterday vs Lithuania.
Almar Atlason has made the final cut and is part of the 12-man Iceland National Team, but he's a sub and played 7 minutes.
Lithuania won 96-83. Almar was 1-2, missing his only 3-pt attempt, had 2 pts, 2 reb, 1 asst.
They begin competition August 28 in Poland - they are in Group D and start off playing Israel.

Isn't Almar missing school? If he's not enrolled and attending classes at Miami, how can he be eligible to play?

Yes, obviously Almar will get a late start to school at Miami (OH) as classes for fall semester began Monday (August 25, 2025)

But he obviously has the ok of the coaching staff.

Anyway, Iceland played again today vs Israel in the Eurobasket 2025 European Championships - Group play.
Final score Israel 83 - Iceland 71. Almar was scoreless in just 3 minutes of play.
They are now 0-1 in Group D with 4 more games to play between now & Sept. 4.
There are 6 teams in Group D and four advance at the end of group play.

Almar is not doing himself or Miami any favors by playing or not playing in these Euro tournaments. My opinion is if you are going to play D-1 college basketball it is better to stay and get your workouts with your college team and staff.

FIBA International play- Iceland just lost to Belgium, a team that Iceland had beaten 4 of the last 5 times they have played.
Score Belgium 71 - Iceland 64
Iceland led the entire game until Belgium came back late in the 4th quarter.
With under a minute, it remained a 1 possession game until the final 15 seconds, then Iceland had to foul.

But the bad news for Almar, he did not play even a single second - never got off the bench.
They maybe could have used him as Iceland shot just 3-22 from 3-pt.
Iceland drops to 0-2 in group play, but they have 3 games left (Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday), and need to win them all.

I know everyone is dying to know....

in Group D play, Iceland drops to 0-3 with an 84-75 loss to Poland. Former Drake Bulldog Dominik Olejniczak with 12 pts, 7 reb.
There is still a remote hope Iceland can still advance, but it would require they win their final two games and hope the two teams
above them both lose their final two games, by large margins, as point differential is a tiebreaker.

Some of the teams have NBA guys playing- Finland (Lauri Markkanen), Germany (Dennis Schroeder, Franz Wagner), Latvia (Porzingis),
Montenegro (Nikola Vucevic), Greece (three Antetokounmpo brothers), Israel (Deni Avdija)...
and as you might guess, they are clearly the best teams in the competition.

Almar, again, did not play at all.
He was visible on the bench so he hasn't left the team.

update-
Iceland loses today to Slovenia 87-79
Iceland falls to 0-4 in Group play with one game remaining (vs France on Thursday) but their chances of advancing are zero...
because there's no chance of finishing in the top 4 teams in group play.
Almar did not play at all in today's game. Perhaps since Thursday's game is meaningless, he'll get a chance.

Maybe it's just me, but why Almar being discussed if he no longer plays for Bradley? I'll bet he's getting more coverage here than on the Miami (OH) board (I haven't checked, nor will I).

Now, bring on the flaming.
