The Sky Is NOT Falling

Folks, I understand that people want a coach - I want one too - but let's take a deep breath here. The situation is not dire.

Let's look on the bright side:

1. There is no indication that three of our core players - TB, Lemon or Prosser - are considering a transfer. It looks like DSE, the other core guy, is out but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Transfers often happen when coaching changes are made. If we can keep several core players, I'll consider it good news.

2. The administration apparently offered 700k for a coach! 700k! This is HUGE! And this after many on this board insisted that President Glasser wouldn't pay anyone more than she is making. Kudos to her for authorizing this kind of offer. If that 700k figure gets out, we'll suddenly have a number of other candidates come out of the woodwork.

3. There are still quality coaches interested in BU. I've got no problem going with an assistant from a big-time program. No problem at all.

4. ISU still stinks!

Hey - all we need is one superstar (say, TB), with 4 role players and a couple serviceable reserves off the bench. :)

OK, I agree, but 2 of your four points have errors from what I would guess. I am just guessing the $ 700,000 could be wrong. The other one I have heard rumors of but won't bring up. I guess it is my turn to be negative.

I've heard from numerous people and even on this board that Lemon is looking into his options.

The sky is falling actually.

We just offered 700K to a school that I couldn't tell you the mascot of....and he turned it down without getting a pay increase, rumor is coaches don't like our admins, 2 of our 3 best players are gone at least. All these coaching names are not worth 700 K, people are scared to hire Bruce Pearl, some of our top recruits are gonna no show, I cry every night.

As long as we have this lineup next year we will be fine:

PG: Will Egolf
SG: Nate Wells
SF: Sean Harris
PF: Charon Woods
C: Anthony Thompson

Seriously, at what point would you consider the sky to be falling?
Because I think it could be just around the corner.

As long as ISU still stinks I'll be happy, brother! I look at it this way - the last Coach we had who didn't do big things was Joe Stowell.

--Versace took us to two NCAA tournaments, won an NIT and recruited three of the top 10 players in the history of the program (JJ, Hawk and Les).

--Albeck turned Hawk into the National Player of the Year and led us to a top-15 national ranking. Most importantly, he kept Hawk, etc. from transferring when he came to town.

--Molinari had us contending year-in-and-year-out, recruited one of the best players in the history of the program (AP), and made Carver Arena come alive again.

--Les took us to our first Sweet 16 in 50 years

The next coach at BU will have better facilities than all four of those coaches, will still have the great BU fan base and will have great success! Book it!

I think the short term benefits would be greatly fixed if we hired Jerrance Howard over any other UW-FW A & M St. Head coach/assistant

I feel like he could get donations recruits and hype

no one else could. except IMO Smart, who is awesome

My list:

1. Shaka Smart
2. Jerrance
3. Myself

C'mon, DC. Let's give this thing a little time. Once the JL decision was made, whether folks disagreed with it or not, we all knew we could lose some players as we looked for a leader for the program. We'll get someone competent in here to lead these kids. We just have to be a little patient.

FWO, how much would we have to pay you? I think we could nail things down pretty quick buddy.

What else can we do? I am content to see how this plays out. But surely even you have to be getting a little concerned?

I know for certain that the admins are in damage-control mode, and are meeting 1 on 1 with the top donors and not hearing what they wanted to hear. They are working feverishly to keep the team together, but grossly underestimated the effect their firing would have. And now Northern Illinois is set to hire Paul Lusk for about half what we tried to throw at Rob Jeter. Even Pollyanna would start to get a little worried.

losing on Lusk would be a shame IMHO...

confused by Kaplan I saw this - "However, Ray Giacoletti and Paul Lusk have both withdrawn their names from consideration after previously being considered leading candidates"

If we don't have a coach when it's time for practice in October, I'll get worried. Seriously, I see where you're coming from, DC, but this has to be the right here, not just a quick one.

The truth is that the BU job probably isn't as glamourous as it was back in 1988 or 1991 or 2006 so making the right hire just might take a little more time than we expect.

I've said all along that I want Sydney Johnson but, assuming we can't get him, I still think there are plenty of quality folks out there.
