This season's list of coach firings/retirings/hirings has already begun..

in an example of unfortunate timing - the head coach of University of South Dakota just stepped down...
absolutely nobody knew this was coming until it happened - less than a month from the start of the season

South Dakota - Dave Boots steps down - Joey James named interim HC

The Athletic Director at Stony Brook was fired yesterday...with nearly three years left on his contract, but there is a connection that is slightly relevant...

Jim Fiore was fired after serving as AD at Stony Brook since 2003..

yikes - some very unpleasant revelations -

In additional coaching news - Maryland Assistant Dalonte Hill, who holds the distinction of being the highest paid college assistant coach, has resigned after at least 3rd DUI-

Talk heating up of Wake Forest going hard after Gregg Marshall
http://www.wralsportsfan.com/deacs-should-keep-an-eye-on-shockers-marshall/13395917/

and talk about fickle -- there's already a buzz about Tom Crean and even talk on their message board of buying him out - which currrently would cost about $18 million :roll:
This is stupid - give the guy a chance - he just lost a couple players early to the NBA and other factors

Another coach was just fired-
Pat Knight, son of legendary coach Bobby Knight, was just fired by Lamar University.
Knight took over in 2011-12 after being fired by Texas Tech, and had a good first season at Lamar with the players he inherited, going 23-11.
But the last 2 seasons have been nightmarish, as Lamar dropped to one of the worst teams in Division I.
He went 3-28 in 2012-13, and was 3-22 this season for a combined 29-62 record.

Former Lamar assistant coach Tic Price will take over as the interim head coach for the rest of the season.

In addition to the guys being fired -
there's a growing bit of talk about who might be the coaches poised with this year's performances - to be hired at bigger and better spots....
Gregg Marshall and even Greg Lansing's names are coming up - but nobody else in the Valley will get much of a sniff...

An obscure sportscaster from Phoenix somehow has the exclusive inside scoop on DePaul that nobody else has? Sorry, I'm not buying that story.
I do think DePaul will probably make a change, but Howland does not appear to be the answer, IMO.
First, he did not have great success his last few years at UCLA, and he alienated their passionate and loyal fan base. His lack of discipline and terrible recruiting damaged the UCLA program. And he was fired in March, 2012, and has not had any connection to coaching or recruiting for 2 years. He has been fishing for the last 2 years.
But more important, he completely lacks the one thing DePaul boosters want more than anything- strong connections to the deep and fertile recruiting pool in the Chicago area that DePaul rarely has tapped into (and which usually heads out of state). Howland has absolutely no connections in Chicago, and never has. That is not going to please the powerful Chicago high school coaches and AAU coaches, nor the Depaul fans. To me, Howland seems like Oliver Purnell-lite.

Another D1 coach just fired today- Florida Atlantic University fires Mike Jarvis.
Jarvis was the coach that recruited and was the only D1 school to offer a scholarship to Omari Grier out of high school in New Jersey.

Update on Florida Atlantic's Mike Jarvis- It was being reported that the FAU administration was prepared to fire him, and pay off the one remaining year on his contract. But now he and FAU have negotiated an agreement that he will voluntarily retire at the end of the season (1 more scheduled game and the CUSA Tournament). I suspect there will be some kind of monetary settlement that might save FAU a little money, but which will also allow Jarvis to retire instead of being fired.

if the people at Tennessee are silly enough to fired Cuonzo Martin - he'd be have multiple job offers elsewhere

Interesting tidbit from the SycamorePride board after Saturday game with UNI:

"Pat Knight was in the house tonight and now with Lansing at Stables.

Wonder if Knight comes on as an assistant?!? "

**Stable's is a high priced restaurant in Terre Haute.
