Status of SM and TB

Awfully quiet on the SM and TB front...

What are the odds SM gets a medical redshirt and be able to come back next season? Is this a lock, or, what?

Didn't I see somewhere that it was doubtful TB would get a medical redshirt and be able to play next season? If so, when will TB know if he can play again this season?

I would think SM would be an automatic medical redshirt since he's never used one before. However, I would doubt that TB gets one since he already used one before coming to BU. I would think that if TB gets medical clearance he will be doing everything within his power to get back into "game shape" by the time the MVC Tournament starts. I think it's possible that we see TB in St. Lou. :)

TB and SM graduated from HS the same year. This is their 4th year out of HS, and in general the NCAA allows 5 years to play 4.
TB already had a redshirt year immediately out of HS (only played 2 years), and was always expected to be eligible next year. I thought the biggest question was if TB would be granted a 6th year, 2 seasons from now.

If he plays in the Lou he forgoes ANY chance at getting another year of eligibility. Correct?

If so, I would hate to see TB waste a chance at a whole year of eligibility to play in a tournament we have very little chance of winning. I would hope someone would talk him out of doing such a thing. If he can retain junior status starting next year it would be pity for him to play in the MVC tourney.

Then again, if he wants to get out of school a year earlier, then who am I to deny him that right. But from a basketball perspective, playing TB in the MVC tourney makes little sense, unless there is no prayer of getting another year of eligibility.

Next year would be TB's 5th year out of HS.
I can appreciate a desire to get out of school and start working (I switched majors and after 4 years in school, decided that was enough so I got a full time job and finished school part time). Although if I was getting a full scholarship....

Sam will get the medical redshirt. All you need is a certified medical reason, and fulfill the NCAA requirements, which Sam does.
TB already took a redshirt his first year at the junior colllege. So he does not automatically qualify regardless whether he has a legitimate medical reason. His only hope of getting another season of eligibilty would be a special waiver granted by the NCAA after his senior year. That is not real likely. And of course, if he plays even a second, since it is past the halfway point of the schedule, this season automatically counts as a year of eligibility

SM's latest tweet: First day of rehab!! Let's goooo! No looking back

Guess he got his cast off a few days ago. It sounds like everything is going according to plan.

If we don't have TB next season, we're doomed. Well, doomed as in - welcome back 4 vs. 5, 2:30 game! (at BEST) I know that Remy will be a nice addition, and DS will be a good back-up to Sammy. But you just can't win consistently with no inside game like TB would give us. We've seen it since 2007, and you CAN'T deny that we have major shortcomings with our bigs.

How do you 'know' Remy Abell will be a nice addition?

What incentive does AT have to come back, especially if he gets his diploma?

With all the 'threats' of departures if there's a coaching change, it sure looks like there will be a lot of turnover regardless if there is one or isn't one.

Hope Sammy can recover, if not to play, then to at least not be hampered the rest of his life.

Who cares if they leave, seriously we can be 0-9 in The Valley without you.

I don't care who leaves. Some think we should be worried about departures from one of the worst teams in school history. I am not one of those people.

We've actually done quite well with late spring JUCO signees in the past (Lawrence Wright, Will Franklin, Theron Wilson, Taylor Brown). Lord knows this program could use several of those types right now.

So, in terms of the future, you don't see anyone on this year's team that would be difficult to replace with someone equal or better?

I
agree with BB. I don't see anyone who is not replaceable. The PROBLEM is getting better people to commit here. I have always said ,"the only way to get better is to bring in better people then you lose or recruit over what you have." We are not doing either.Maybe Remy or Harris will be different. Hope so ,I don't see the future being very bright if our newbies can't help and TB is finished.

I really don't want to see DSE/WL/JP leave. I don't see how people could think these guys won't be valuable to this team for the next few seasons. These 3 guys are not superstars, but they are pretty good IMO, work very hard, and have the desire to win that you need.

Sure - a few guys on the current team have not panned out/improved much since their arrival on the Hilltop (WE, AT to name a few).
But if you look at our guards' progression from Freshman to Junior/senior, would you want guys like JC, SM, AW to have left after their first couple seasons, seeing how they turned out?

I dont' think we've seen the best of DSE this season...he's had a trying sophomore campaign.
Surround these guys with another good outside shooter (besides Sammy) and a big that can score, and you'll see how valuable these guys like DSE and WL can be. And to me, JP is the best freshman big we've had in quite some time.

Nope. There's not one guy on the roster that has me saying 'man, what will we do when he's gone?' or 'how are we going to replace this guy?'. We're 0-9, what could we possibly be clinging to?

Of course they're not superstars. They're only two freshmen and a sophomore. Give them time to grow and get some talent and coaching around them and I think they all have as good of a chance as most anybody ever brought into the program to blossom into stars (maybe just not SUPERstars).

Right on, B4L!
They (WL/DSE) need to work on the 8-12 foot floaters though, and jump shots to be really tough to defend.

I wonder what we do if SM does get a redshirt and can play next year and nobody leaves and TB does get cleared to play. If those three things happen, we are one over our scholarship limit of 13. What do you do then?
