Starting lineup introductions

real fan

New member
This years starting lineup introductions do not even come close as far as getting the crowd excited as last years did; anybody know if the conference said we were taking too much time and told us to stop as I think last seasons really got the crowd going and psyched the opposing teams out; I also thought it was a good recruiting tool as no other team had anything that good .

I agree completely. I think the crowd reation will improve when we get into the conference season, but the production stinks compared to last year.

The video quality alone was vastly superior. The graphics the highlights, the photos, etc, on last years video gave me goose bumps. I don't know what is going on, but it feels like were are trying to reinvent everything when it comes to game production.

I was as happy with what we did last year as I can ever remember and it seems like it is all different this year.:(

I would like it be like last year's video except maybe much longer.

Yeah, Thats it! ;)

Really though, something needs to change, the intros now really don't get the crowd nearly as involved as they could. I understand teams complained about the intros last year, but maybe somewhere in between?

Agree 100%. I live by the old saying 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'. Well, whoever is in charge of the pre-game intros and overall game production looks like they've tried to tinker with everything that worked great last year. Last year's intros were original and awesome. The montage was great, the flow was great, and the crowd was really pumped up after that loud montage showing the great history of our program. This year's montage is terrible. No history, no images of our great past, nothing. The video is awful and so is the song. The intros are terrible too. There is absolutely no flow between BU running on the court, the music, the band, the lights, anything. Heck, BU warmed up in the dark against Iowa St!

The intros aren't the only thing that are awful. What in the heck was going on with the 'Fight Song' timeout yesterday? Everyone is standing and waiting for the song, and the cheerleaders were trying to lead some discombobulated 'Bradley' cheer. I think the cheerleaders do a great job, but what was wrong with the standard 'Fight Song' timeout?

So, I would recommend that before BU plays SEMO at then end of the month, the people in charge put things back the way they were, intros, song, video, everything. If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT!

Can I get an AMEN from the congregation! Do you feel better BB?

Amen! Hallelujah!

Feel better? No. I have a lot of BU 'angst' that's only cured with BU wins. Come this time next week, I may feel better with a South Padre Championship. :)

But the good feelings will be short-lived...the house of horrors known as the Gentile Center await us on the 28th...

BradleyBrave....
I agree wholeheartedly with all of your points above...
The intro video/song for this year is a huge step backwards from last year...I am all for people trying to improve things from year to year, but it is time that someone steps up and admits that this year's attempt at a new intro sequence is a miserable failure and they try to figure out a way to do something that resembles last year's intro...

Last year's video montage was great...it showed the history of BU basketball...it showed some of the most memorable plays, some of the greatest moments, and some of the greatest players ever to play at BU...
It really was a great piece to watch and it really built some excitement in the arena...and then the best part of that video, IMO, was how it built momentum and then resolved at the very end to that static image of Ruffin holding up one finger and smiling after one of the NCAA games...just a perfect climax for that montage I think...
And then the intros of the players coming through the stands was a really exciting moment following that video clip...

This year...the video is just a bunch of random plays from the last couple of years...nothing with historical significance...none of them are all that interesting to watch, really. A couple of layups against Quincy...a couple of random jumpshots against Evansville last year...yippee! And there is no meaningful, defining, climactic moment anywhere in that video...
If you are going to show me a minute long video to try and get me excited about BU basketball...show me Les going coast to coast against ISU...show me a Hawkins buzzer beater...show me Deon Jackson's shot in the Valley tourney...show me Franklin's half-court shot against Kansas...and mix in highlights of the current guys around these defining moments in recent BU history...This to me would effectively capture in video form this 'Once a Brave, Always a Brave' mantra that we hear so often...

This year's video is just lifeless compared to last year's...I was at the game a whole 26 hours ago, and I can't for the life of me remember what the final image even is on this year's video....But I can still vividly see Ruff's image in my head from the end of last year's video that I haven't seen in what, 8 months now? That is pretty telling to me. If these videos were two commercials designed to make me want to 'buy' BU basketball as a product...I would buy "BU basketball '06-'07" every time over "BU basketball '07-'08"...I'd probably pay twice as much to get it, in fact...BU 06-07 just looks like it tastes way better based on the commercials...

And the way they bring the players out through the cheesy fog machine is, again to me, a big downgrade from last year...Every time I see the fog start to build over there, I feel as though a crappy Warrant concert is going to break out or WWE Smackdown 54 is about to get kicked off...and neither of those are things that I ever want to be a part of...
I liked how they ran the starting lineups down the aisle like it was an NFL game or something...If it 'has' to be done differently this year for some reason, I don't think this is the way to do it.

And yes...if it is a 'fight song timeout'...play the fight song...don't try to awkwardly get us to spell B-R-A-D-L-E-Y for two minutes and then do the fight song...I can see that the cheerleaders are trying to do something diferent there, but I guess I just don't see how it would make it 'better'...this one could get better with time, I suppose...but I'm not totally sold on it...

My fingers are crossed that they can somehow fix the intros...the current ones just make us look like we are a small time, wanna-be program compared to the production quality of last year's efforts...

I loved last year's intros, although i was always nervous someone would get hurt coming from the stands. How about the same intro video/special announcement, etc. But we dont come from the stands. Seems fair enough to me.

Just happy to hear that I am not the only one that thinks this years version stinks; also who cares if the opposing teams are upset about it as this is our house; how do we relay this info so that we can possibly get back last seasons intro?

Yeah, I love that last image of Ruff holding up his finger like that after winning one of the NCAA games. I'd wish we could keep that video or just shorten it a little. I did think it was a little long but the overall feel of that video was awesome.

I have no way of knowing, but I would not be surprised if we were "told" to shorten it up either by the Valley or the NCAA.

I think that's a distinct possibility MR. However, shortening the production doesn't mean it has to be turned into the low-budget, awkward production it seems to be now.

Yeah...it just seemed like we went from having a player intro piece that looked more like an NBA production in terms of quality and presentation...to something this year that looks like something that the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBDL would throw together on their shoestring budget...

I thought the same thing about the Valley or the ncaa complaining about it being too long but we should be able to shorten it and still keep the best parts of it; I am not going to be available to be able to call and ask coach Les but would sure hope someone else is able to ask him why this was changed.

I know I'm not with the majority here, but I was of the opinion last years introduction lasted way too long. This year so far I think the intros are more reasonable. It's not like we have been a basketball powerhouse for 20 years. The intros get the crowd in the game, but once the game starts the band, PA announcer and the goofy promotions do away with that. I've been going to BU games for over 50 years and the introductions don't win games, they don't have to be that extravagant. Sorry.

Iliked last years intro much better. Maybe the length needs to be shortened. I also, liked when an ex-player or even an ex-coach would give a message to the arena to get excited or whatever. It was much better, and it turned the excitement up for the start of the game.

I'm with the majority.....last year was something special. MAYBE they are waiting until some "bigger" games to break it out again. And who cares how flippin long it was....its entertainment and THATS what we are there for. Sure the game is paramount but our intro was original and about BU. PERIOD.
