SIU's Ryan Hare arrested

ironic that e-mayhem posted it here instead of on salukitalk where he's been treated with such courtesy!

Anybody have a story link to this? I'm trying to find the time the fight happened, want to see if I hear it on the Carbondale/SIU police scanner archive.

Jason

arrested on aggravated battery and criminal trespassing

"Police were called to a report of a fight at about 9:20 a.m. Saturday morning
to the 800 block of East Grand Avenue. The victim, an aquaintance of Hare,
was found to have been in a fight and taken to Memorial Hospital of
Carbondale and later released."

just doesn't add up....kid have spats all the time and never call the cops..
I guess if the one is a scholarship athlete, the other wants to get back at him this way...

SIU's Ryan Hare still in jail as of Sunday afternoon. He was charged with a felony battery charge.-

This article says bail was posted at 4:55 pm Sunday.
By the way- here is his mug shot, and it can be seen that he is less than 6'3" tall.

The SIU roster page lists his height at 6'4"- I wonder if they will correct that?

6-2 and a half, and he probably still has shoes on.

Hare needs to get this issue resolved, and get things back on track..he needs his education..
but there were numerous rumors while Hare was still in high school of this kind of stuff.

Anyone remember these stories?

Hare's HS coach was cited and fired for
"threatening players…failing to prohibit a person with three felony convictions and seven arrests
for possession and distribution of drugs from serving as a volunteer assistant coach…
and knowingly playing ineligible players.”
"Complaints about corporal punishment, specifically paddling, of Marshall student athletes arose last year.."
Then the coach's replacement was also fired...and lawsuits followed, costing the CPL millions.
There were also allegations that the coach took money in exchnage for access to the players, and that had something to do with Hare's renegging on his verbal to Oregon and then looking elsewhere.

Wasnt Hare the one on the Salukis that played the same day last season that he was in court on his dui? That hints to me that hell get off easy again. because they need him.

.

.

Semantics. He has an alcohol related arrest while operating and his license was taken as bond, and he made his court date. Under 21 any amount is sufficient.

Hare was arrested once while at SIU for underage consumption in september of 2008 which was later dismissed in early november

Operating a vehicle and underage drinking are two different things in my book. Here in this country we make to big of a deal of underage drinking. What we need to show kids is how to be a bit more responsible and by making our young adults hide their consumption we just push a problem underground. :?

I'm not as sure about him playing in their first couple of games as you are Coach.

I just talked to my friend who has good info on the Salukis. He tells me Hare was about to be suspended for violating team rules when this assault thing happened.

He thinks Hare could be out of games for a while.

I want to give Lowery and SIU some credit here. We are always quick to point out the negative things that some players do, and complain when they "get off the hook" -- while we don't know for sure how long this "indefinite" suspension here will really be... at least we're making progress towards an actual punishment and taking it seriously.

Good work, Lowery.

some of their message board posters are saying Hare was already in the doghouse and set to be suspended from play at the outset of the season for some prior issue, and that this new arrest is thus even more serious for RH's playing time.
I guess time will tell, but Hare was their 5th leading scorer, 5th in min. played, and really not among the team leaders in anything else except by far having more turnovers than anyone except their PG Dillard, and he was also among the leaders in PF and FO.
Given their early season schedule against the likes of Henderson State, Southern Indiana, Tennessee-Marin, University of Indianapolis, UIC, SEMO, Alabama State, San Francisco, San Diego, SLU, and UNLV, I'd say that no matter what the term of suspension, they won't be losing any games because of his absence.

I thought Ryan Hare had a pretty good season for a freshman. He played a lot, showed some versatility, etc. I had hoped Bradley would get him out of high school.

Losing him would hurt SIU for sure. Every coach handles stuff differently. Some coaches give guys suspensions that no one in the public knows about.
