Dantiel Daniels had four other official visits scheduled, but after spending the weekend in Carbondale, the 6-foot-5 forward decided he had seen enough.

Daniels, an incoming senior at Holt High School near St. Louis, verbally committed to the Southern Illinois University men's basketball team earlier today. He joins 6-8 forward Treg Setty of Mason County (Ky.) High School in the class of 2011. SIU has one scholarship remaining, as senior Justin Bocot could earn a fifth year of elibility if he completes at least 80 percent of his degree by the end of this school year.

Daniels helped the Holt Indians, who are in Wentzville, Mo., to a 22-8 record last year. Expected to be a small forward in college, Daniels averaged 17 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks a game at the center/power forward spot last season. He had offers from Virginia Commonwealth, Oral Roberts, Colorado State and Western Kentucky, and had official visits scheduled with all four, but will cancel them now.

"I think, just, it was a multiple amout of things," Daniels said. "It's not far from home. When they recruited me, they kept sending me mail to let me know they were thinking of me. I really liked the coaches, the group of coaches. That's, basically, what it was for me."
