SIU is loading up with jucos to replace the players who are leaving (Hare, Dillard and Booker?). Tony Freeman is their only departing senior.

Mykel Cleveland, who Bradley looked at, has verbally committed to SIU today.-

Thread from the BradleyFans.com recruiting board about Mykel Cleveland-
http://bradleyfans.com/vb/showthread.php?t=14872

He is a point guard from Southwestern Illinois College who doesn't score much- 11 ppg and 4.7 apg.

He joins 2 other juco players who have committed to SIU in the past week-
6'0" shooting guard Troy Long, of Southeastern Illinois College-

6'7", 180 pound forward Ernest Watson of Trinity Valley CC-

SIU is really going to struggle with all these Juco"s, there system was built on redshirt freshman that were really good players there Jr. and SR. seasons.

Agreed. The redshirt freshmen also eliminated a lot of the transfer problems they are having now. Use their redshirt early and they are a lot less likely to waste another year transferring.

Diamond Taylor transferred after he was enrolled and the year had begun - so he wouldn't be eligible until mid-season (2nd semester) so they are really going to have to use some of these juco kids right away.
Has there been confirmation of Dillard & Booker leaving?

Here is the NCAA rule...and it says clearly that if a student transfers and enrolls after the 12th day of the current term, he CANNOT use that term as part of his one year he has to sit out for transferring..

Diamond Taylor did NOT transfer and enroll at SIU until October of 2009, so surely that was well beyond the 12th day of classes, and so according to the NCAA rule, he may NOT be eligible until mid year of 2010-2011...

I have underlined and highlighted in red the applicable parts of the rules...

14.5 TRANSFER REGULATIONS
14.5.1 Residence Requirement—General Principle. A student who transfers (see Bylaw 14.5.2) to a
member institution from any collegiate institution is required to complete one full academic year of residence at
the certifying institution before being eligible
to compete for or to receive travel expenses from the member institution..

To satisfy an academic year of residence, a student shall:
(a) Be enrolled in and complete a minimum full-time program of studies for two full semesters or three full
quarters; or
(b) Be enrolled in a minimum full-time program of studies for two full semesters or three full quarters and
pass a number of hours that is at least equal to the sum total of the minimum load of each of the required
terms. Any student-athlete (e.g., qualifier, nonqualifier, transfer student) admitted after the 12th class day
may not use that semester or quarter for the purpose of establishing residency. (Revised: 1/3/06)

14.5.1.3 Disciplinary Suspension. A student who transfers to any NCAA institution from a collegiate institution
while the student is disqualified or suspended from the previous institution for disciplinary reasons (as
opposed to academic reasons) must complete one calendar year of residence at the certifying institution.

14.5.5 Four-Year College Transfers.
14.5.5.1 General Rule. A transfer student from a four-year institution shall not be eligible for intercollegiate
competition at a member institution until the student has fulfilled a residence requirement of one full academic
year (two full semesters or three full quarters) at the certifying institution. Further, a transfer student-athlete
admitted after the 12th class day may not use that semester or quarter for the purpose of establishing residency
.

(Revised: 1/10/91 effective 8/1/91)
14.5.5.1.1 Attendance for One Academic Year. A transfer student from a four-year institution who
attended a four-year institution at least one academic year shall be eligible for financial aid (see Bylaw
14.5.5.4) and practice at a member institution under the rules of the institution and the conference of
which the institution is a member, regardless of the student’s qualification status (per Bylaw 14.3.1.1) at the
time of initial enrollment. (Revised: 1/9/06 effective 8/1/07)
14.5.5.1.2 Attendance for Less Than One Academic Year. A transfer student from a four-year institution
who was not a qualifier (as defined in Bylaw 14.02.9.2) and who attended a four-year institution less
than one full academic year shall not be eligible for competition during the first academic year of attendance
at the certifying institution. Participation in practice sessions and the receipt of financial aid during the first
academic year of attendance at the certifying institution by such students is governed by the provisions of
Bylaw 14.3.2.1 (see Bylaw 14.5.5.4). (Revised: 1/3/06, 1/9/06 effective 8/1/07)

of course I don't make the determination, I can only cite the rules that appear to apply...so I guess we shall see....

Per every press release about the transfer and the SIU coaches he redshirted this year and has 4 years of eligibility starting at the beginning of next year. If I am wrong so is everyone close to the situation. Given the state of SIU right now I guess they could be but my money would be on the coaching staff and administration

I know - but I was just citing the rule...
this same thing happened with DeAaron Williams (although he went to ICC and not BU) and then just a couple years ago with Alex Legion when they both quit at Wisc. & Kentucky real early in the fall semester, yet they were STILL NOT eligible until the end of the next year's first semester....

I initially thought the same as well. We will know for sure in the fall I guess.

Not that it will be a surprise.. I hear the announcement on Dillard & Booker could come at any time now..

Also more Juco recruits on SIU campus this weekend.

The Valley needs SIU to have a strong out of conference schedule and play well against them to keep the RPI up....
hopefully their restocking goes well.......

I have heard those rumors, too. Both jucos from last year's recruiting class, John Freeman and Jack Crowder are said to be talking it over with their families to consider whether to leave. But the biggest loss might be Gene Teague, SIU's All-Freshman center, who is also said to be homesick and considering transferring.

Very similar to what I heard..
Eugene Teague is homesick, and may just pack it in and go back to Jersey.
There are rumors of a "personal situation" with John Freeman and he is looking at smaller options back home in indy.
And Jack Crowder's mother mom is terminally ill. He is looking at quitting school to be with her.

Correct, as it has apparently now been clarified that Diamond Taylor, the transfer from Wisconsin, will not
be eligible until after the end of 1st semester...probably some time in later December...
http://dailyegyptian.com/2010/10/20/spt_basketballpre_10-21-2010/

by the way -- I note that column also references the magnitude of all the
"arguing and bickering and attempts to average a certain number of points"

by a few ex-Salukis.....and I have no doubt that's referring to Dillard, Booker, and Roundtree....

He should be eligible for the Northern Illinois game on Dec. 22.
