Scottie James

While I realize that Liberty is not in a conference like the MVC, they do play some good Divn.1 teams. Scottie James has done very well and is their leading scorer and rebounder. This makes me wonder if letting him go was a mistake?

I think every program makes recruiting misses
Scottie was not willing to wait a year here to develop and yet he transferred and sat out that entire next year anyway
....He's doing well, and perhaps that's the right fit - but recall - had not Brian Wardle spotted him & offered him in spring of 2015,
and gave him a chance - he'd be playing DII or DIII ball or would have had to go to juco - He literally owes his DI success to Brian Wardle.

Hard to know but....Scottie left at the end of the 2015-16 season - so that freed up an extra scholarship that Brian could go out and land someone else...
shortly thereafter - he offered and landed Elijah Childs - so just maybe we upgraded!!
The only other scholarship that opened up that spring was followed by the landing of Jojo - which then turned into getting Ja'Shon the next spring.
So I'd say when we lost Davante Cooper & Scottie James but used the scholarships for replacement front court guys & picked up Elijah Childs & Ja'Shon Henry as a result - then Wardle made the RIGHT moves and he made the BEST of what could have been a mistake.

And with those moves it set us for another couple of years that we wouldn't have had with SJ even though I really liked him and hated to see him go. Extremely happy with the replacements though as they are go take us even further.
