Sammy Man

Was just scrolling thru final season official NCAA stats (because tomorrow is Monday and I don't feel like dealing with that) and noticed that, as a FROSH, Sammy ranks #50 among ALL D-I players in assist-to-turnover ratio. Wow! That bodes very well for the future . . .

He was a joy to watch this year...I really think he ran the offense better toward the end of the year than Ruffin did. He doesn't have the drive-and-dish ability that Ruff did, but he was much more of a stabilizing factor, was better at getting everyone else involved, and didn't force things as much. I'm really looking forward to seeing him develop further over the next 3 seasons...

I really like Samman's game. I also agree with ER3's assessment of him vs. Ruffin this season. Only thing that worries me is that I think it was DRuff's drive-and-kick game that allowed us to play inside-outside with just one post player... So I like how Maniscalco runs the offense, but think it's even more critical that we have two post players on the court most of the time next season.

Actually, I distinctly remember Sam driving in and scoring on several play this season. But no, he won't be running the out of bounds under the basket like Ruffin liked to do.

It's not his ability to score inside, he does that really well. But his drives to the basket don't draw the defense in as much as Ruffin's did, nor did he kick it out a lot after going in there. SM I think will be great, maybe better than Ruffin when he's done, but he IS a different kind of player.

Sam's a coach's dream, almost like a coach on the floor. This is no knock on DR, but I feel like Sam might bring a little more floor general/coach on the floor type skills to the team than DR did.

Slowly but surely I see us trending towards the 4 year player, and Sam is big part of that. I really like our foundation of 4 year guys with Sam, Andrew, Will, and Anthony. Hopefully our last scholarship goes to a 4 year kid, and hopefully most of our 5 scholarships next year go to 4 year kids as well.

And BTW, there are only THREE freshmen ranked in the national top 50 for a-to ratio. Some pretty good company.

Sam had an excellent year for a true freshman PG. He was third on the team in minutes, shot 37% from three, and took good care of the ball. I think Maniscalco, Warren, and Wilson might be the best trio in the Valley for next season. Getting the players around them to step up will determine if Bradley is merely good or very good.

I agree. I also think it's fair to pencil in Dodie Dunson as a significant contributor as well (based on his contributions as a freshman at Iowa St). The season will really hinge on what Collins, Thompson, Egolf, Austin, and Singh can give us inside.

I agree and wouldn't it be great if they can push JL to have TW play the 3. We will be guard heavy and if we are to be very good we will need to see our bigs step up and see them all play significant minutes. I just wish we had a 6'8" 250 lbs 4 postion player that plays really great D.

I think Sam the Man is a great player and will be a geat one for Bradley. Looking forward to see him really lead the team next year as the starting point guard.
