Rienk Mast Dutch U21 Championship game streamed live at 11am

Rienk Mast is wearing #17 in white-
so far in the first couple minutes he's filling the stat sheet..
5 pts, 1 reb, 1 steal, 1 block and picked up 1 foul on a high screen that was a pretty bogus call

end of 1st quarter Donar looking good....
Score: Donar 23 - Apollo 19
Mast has 9 pts, 4 reb and has 1 foul

Halftime: Donar 38 - Apollo 35
Rienk Mast sat out those final 3 minutes to avoid his 3rd foul so his halftime stats are as noted in the last post
Donar has way too many turnovers - and I don't think they get the ball into Rienk's hands often enough

Rienk already has his double-double early in the 2nd half but Donar continues to turn the ball over a lot so they trail midway thru 3rd quarter 43-40

Rienk seems to have good potential---He's very young. BUT.....He is going to have to work on some things to be effective in the MVC and contribute to BU. His overall energy didn't seem very strong.

---Needs to work on his defense----He will have to learn how to play better on the inside down low and free himself for 3 pt. shots. One possibility might be to Red Shirt him ; This would also allow time for him to physically develop and get stronger.

Agree, but those things could be said about nearly every incoming freshman recruit. Rienk will have played against better competition that just about any incoming freshman in recent memory. So I would personally like to see him play and not redshirt. I think he can give Bradley a little of what Luuk van Bree contributed last year, and maybe he and Ja'Shon can help prevent teams from double-teaming Elijah Childs. But if the coaches think that a redshirt is needed, then OK. But Coach Wardle doesn't seem very inclined to use redshirts on freshmen like some other coaches do. Ari Boya seemed like a good redshirt candidate last season. Plus, with 2 and maybe 3 transfers who have to sit out, I am not sure we can afford to redshirt anyone without hurting team depth.

We'll obviously know a lot more about the freshmen when they arrive on campus and start working out, and once practices begin. I like the quality and types of players we have in this 2019 class- Mast, Tahvanainen, Gabriel, Thomas, Houpt, and Kingsby (if eligible). I think they can all contribute and offer something different.
