Ray Brown in postseason

So, before the death march that was last night's game, I had a chance to chat with Ray Brown during warmups. He mentioned that as of March 15, 2007 (one year from his positive drug test) he's eligible to play.

I know this came up before and there was a bit of a discussion, but if hades freezes over and we win the Valley tournament, he can get a few minutes in. NIT, he said some games would work.
 
Here is the page from the NCAA website that addresses drug violations involving athletes and their suspensions. And it does appear that what Ray is saying is true. Since the violation occurred last season, the length of the ban is for 365 calenday days.--

Bylaw 18.4.1.5* Ineligibility for Use of
Banned Drugs
A student-athlete who is found to have utilized a substance
on the list of banned drug classes, as set forth in
Bylaw 31.2.3.4, shall be declared ineligible for further
participation in postseason and regular-season competition
in accordance with the ineligibility provisions in
Bylaw 18.4.1.5.1. The certifying institution may appeal to
the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement for
restoration of the student-athlete???‚¬?„?s eligibility if the institution
concludes that circumstances warrant restoration.

18.4.1.5.1 Duration of Ineligibility.
A student-athlete who tests positive (in accordance with
the testing methods authorized by the Executive
Committee) shall be charged with the loss of a minimum
of one season of competition in all sports if the season of
competition has not yet begun for that student-athlete or
a minimum of the equivalent of one full season of competition
in all sports if the student-athlete tests positive during
his or her season of competition (i.e., the remainder
of contests in the current season and contests in the subsequent
season up to the period of time in which the student-
athlete was declared ineligible during the previous
year). The student-athlete shall remain ineligible for all
regular-season and postseason competition during the
time period ending one calendar year (i.e., 365 days)
after the student-athlete???‚¬?„?s positive drug test and until the
student-athlete tests negative (in accordance with the
testing methods authorized by the Executive Committee)
and the student-athlete???‚¬?„?s eligibility is restored by the
Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement. (Revised:
1/10/90 effective 8/1/90, 1/16/93, 1/9/96 effective 8/1/96,
1/14/97 effective 8/1/97, 4/28/05 effective 8/1/05)
 
Has Ray been practicing with the team? If he hasn't, I can't imagine he would have anything worthwhile to contribute this year. I look forward to him next year though.
 
As far as I know, he's been practicing with the team, and it would appear he's been spending lots of extra time with the weights 'cause he's gotten a lot bigger. Now, I'm really just curious as to what he can do and what he'll contribute next year.

Honestly, I'm happy for him. I'd gotten to know him a little at the beginning of last season and, lapse in judgement aside, he's a good kid.

He definitely is a great kid. He is always smiling and talkative. Ray could have gotten down on himself or others over this turn of events, but he has handled it as well as you could expect. I think he'll be an important part of this team the next 2 years.

I really hope you guys are right, I don't know him, nor have I even seen him but one or two times on campus, however I do tend to have low expectations when a player does something like that of him getting his act together, but from the sounds of it my predisposition is wrong. I would love to to see Ray come back and be an impact player.
 
This is good news for Ray Brown, but I honestly can't see him playing this season. I agree with what chitown said earlier, he wont be higher up than Singh or warren in the rotation.
