Pj star

Wow, the PJ Star actually ripping the team a little-

Mavs and the Mav-nots: UT Arlington Mavs make Bradley look 'silly' in 86-75 win
http://www.pjstar.com/article/20141114/Sports/141119431#ixzz3J8qS8NdU

A couple comments:
Dave, and Geno talk about the UT Arlington team as if they were Kentucky or Kansas, but in reality they are a mediocre low-major that had a losing record last year, an RPI over 200, and who was playing without 2 of their best players, something Dave completely failed to mention.

And despite praising Omari Grier for his great offensive night, Dave fails to mention just how awful his defense was. But then nobody on this team appears capable of playing defense. As much as we miss Walt's and Dyricus' offense, the difference in defensive skill and effort is infinite.

And in commenting about the attendance, his estimate of 4,000 is way too high, but why not mention the record numbers of people who left early? That is a phenomenon I can never recall happening at the level I saw last night.

Sorry if this was posted. Dave Reynolds' cruel report card-

Frontcourt ??” F
The bigs rebounded better and did a better job of positioning themselves to score than the Augustana exhibition. But they missed an unfathomable number of close-in shots that helped the Mavericks turn a close game into a rout.
Backcourt ??” D-
Omari Grier recorded his best scoring game as a Brave (33 points) and Warren Jones did some good things (13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals). But the offense was largely disorganized and the guards were ineffective in getting to 3-point shooters.
Bench ??” C
Jones did his damage off the bench as did Mike Shaw, who grabbed 9 rebounds. Nate Wells was a factor late, blocking 4 shots.
Overall ??” D-
As inept as the Braves were on both ends, they deserve some credit for their sustained effort. Arlington doesn??™t have a basketball name, but it has some decent basketball players and could do well in the Sun Belt. Bradley has 30 games left and two important players sitting out. The season is not a lost cause by any stretch.

he ought to have a grade for coaching - as they sure used to criticize the coaching before - even the posture of the coach in timeouts..
Just how did we assemble such an inept staff?

But this coaching staff has to be the least experienced Division I coahing staff in history.
Not one assistant on our staff had any DI coaching experience until we hired them to be assistant coaches here.
Uken has 3 years of experience here, Coleman has two years, and both Pittis & Luster have zero.
None has any experience as a DI coach anywhere else - and it shows in both offensive & defensive development...
and it shows in the recruiting and inability to gauge talent. Just how many recruits have we brought in here who couldn't even score 10 ppg in high school or junior college, then we are "shocked" that they can't score in Division I - or even against Division III defense!

Yes, he should be happy. He got everything he demanded as he worked closely with the president to portray what she wanted in the media.

Some of his old columns are funny to read in retrospect. I am surprised he hasn't demanded they be deleted.

Kirk is such a hypocrite! He really should have had someone else write today's hit piece for him, because for him to pretend to be upset by how bad Bradley is now comes off so phony after he helped engineer the coaching change for JG, and after he and DR wrote numerous articles heaping unwarranted praise on Geno, his assistants, the "defining moments", and the stellar recruiting classes. It has always been clear that the players left over from Les carried this team for 3 years, and Kirk & Dave are just now noticing the lack of talent and coaching? They were never shy about ripping the coaching and recruiting for the last coach, where have they been for the last 3 years?

Kirk has made it clear he soured on Jim Les right from the start and began beating the drum in his biased agenda to get him fired - even in just his 2nd season at BU

Excellent point. ..one I've said for some time. Similarly, Think back to the best years of jl, he did have at least one good asst.and in later years suffered with some of the same inexperienced coach problems as today.

This was very clear from the beginning. He didn't like the hire, didn't like the way JL handled the press, and he is one of those "Buescher gets all the credit" guys.

I find some of these comments about Captain Kirk hilarious. No question he led the drumbeat to get rid of JL and has been the pide piper for Geno and the current regeme. It might have taken him awhile but maybe Kirk has finally seen the light. If he was the one who helped get JL fired, which most of the anti Journal Star people have said, maybe we should encourage him to lead this drumbeat in getting Geno let go as well. Nothing else is working.

At 700K + and a contract we will be seeing Ford in the future. BU can't afford to fire him and get another coach. I still keeping hope that a true point guard can help turn this team around. I may just be optimistic. We also need to bring in another true, not a combo, point guard next year.

Yes, I agree.
But, I still think we also need an accomplished shooter. I think we'll see a lot more games this year when we struggle to score points. Maybe Amerson, if he gains eligibility, can help, but I still don't think we have enough guys who can create and consistently hit the three. Plus our best three point shooter, Barnes, will be gone.

Recall - when the time was right to fire the last coach - it was when the amount due to be paid on Coach Les' contract had shrunk to about $1.3 million...
But Bradley was in better shape financially back then so the President pulled the trigger and thus had to pay the buyout.

Bradley probably couldn't even afford that much now because of the financial problems
and losses of $6 million per year within the Athletic Department

BUT -- a rough estimate (based on what's been made known)
.. of what it would take to buy out his contract -

If we did it now -------- $2.8 million
If done at the end of the season- $2.1 million
if done at the end of 2015-16 -- $1.4 million
at the end of 2016-17 (almost 3 years from now)-- $700,000
