Peoria kids doing well at AAU tourney

The Illinois Warriors have Justin Dehm & Bill Cole on their roster.
They are playing in Arizona this weekend at a big AAU tourney.
They are not only doing well, they are kicking butt!!

Bill Cole must be injured, as he isn't playing much and has scored very little.

The Illinois Warriors finished 6-1 and lost the semifinal game, 74-69, to the "Pump N Run" team that walked all over their finals opponent for an easy 67-48 Finals win.

Bill Cole & Justion Dehm had 13, and 14 pts respectively in their quarterfinal game, and in the semi, Dehm had 12 but Cole didn't play much.

Nice showing for the local kids.

i would like to see us get dehm.

I said that a long time ago. the kid is a stud. with fears, though, we have way too many guards. it would be nice if we could get dehm and have him redshirt, but he has too much talent to redshirt.

The old adage that you can never have enough shooters has become even more true in the past few seasons. If college coaches are looking for a pure shooter they need look no further than 2008 Washington (Ill.) 6-foot-2 shooting guard Matt Roth.

Roth is one of the top shooters in the talented Illinois class of 2008. He is currently playing with the Indiana Elite 16 and under team this summer, where he has continued his hot shooting. Team Indiana has won the 'Real Deal on the Hill' and the Hoosier Spring Showcase, while making the semifinals of the Specie Run and Slam. He has also shown almost unlimited range, and has one of those releases that make you think almost every shot is going in.


Roth is currently receiving most of his interest from Missouri Valley schools such as Bradley and Illinois State, he has also gotten interest from Illinois. "I've been down to Illinois for a few games," Roth said. "It's a great atmosphere and a lot of fun."

At the Cactus Classic tournament in Arizona, that has many mentions above and links, the Illinois Warriors lost in the semi's and finished in 3rd place, 6-1.

But Bill Cole only played in FOUR of the team's games, and didn't do as well as one might have thought, averaging only 5 ppg, and 3.5 rpg.

BUT-- Bill was named to the All Tournament team, even though his teammate Justin Dehm appears to have had a far better tourney.

There was a report on the Illini Premium board from a viewer who had made the trip to Arizona to watch the Classic, and he not only reported on Bill Cole, but also on Justin Dehm.


"I was there for a few of the IL Warriors games in AZ. I agree that Cole shouldn't have gotten the nod for All Tournament Team, but I did miss the majority of his first game, as well as the semi-final game when he had 15 and 8, and possibly more blocks which aren't listed.

(Cole was injured for the first game and played sparingly in two others)

As for Dehm, he's very heady, but his limitations are physical attributes. He's 6'1", not overly quick, not a great jumper, and may have a hard time guarding quicker guards. That said, he's a calming influence, has a tremendous feel for the game, and appears to be improving all the time. According to his Dad, his recruitment is heating up and he's received serious calls from all of the Valley and some East Coast schools. It's hard to project his game to the high D1 level, but he's been great in the games I watched. ....but Dehm should have gotten more votes for All Tourney..."


This Memorial Day Weekend is the Tournament of Champions AAU Event, one of the biggest all season, and several Illinois teams will be there. The Illinois Wolves web site states they'll be there.
