Murray State played a preseason exhibition game tonight in Wichita against Wichita State.
Final score- Murray State 93 Wichita State 87- https://goracers.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2026-27/wichita-state/boxscore/11918

Murray State was lead by Roman Doman with 17 points, and Brayden Shorter with 16 points.
The game stayed close most of the way, but then a scoring spurt midway through the 2nd half helped Murray State open a 10 point lead 80-70 with about 6 minutes left, and from there, the Racers held on.
 
Wichita played much better in the 1st half then went more with their bench in the 2nd half (starters played 21-25 min)
In that 2nd half- the Shockers gave up 6-9 on 3-pt shots to the Racers and also sent Murray State to the free throw line
an astounding 29 times just in the 2nd half. I have a feeling if they stay healthy, Murray State will definitely be the team to beat.
We will see early on in the MVC race as their first 5 games are vs ISU, InSU, UIC, Drake & at Bradley.

and one other exhibition yesterday of note- almost like watching an MVC game.... Xavier beat Dayton 82-76.
Xavier has made a cottage industry out of poaching MVC players. Last year it was All Wright and Gabe Pozzato, and before that it
was UIC's Sasa Ciani & Indiana State's Ryan Conwell. This year they grabbed SIU's Rolyns Aligbe and also Drake's Braden Appelhans.
In the win over Dayton, Pozzato had 5 pts, Appelhans had 2, Aligbe didn't play and Wright transf to Loyola Marymount.
Dayton also has one ex-MVC player, Murray State's Tristian Ford- he scored 9.

Utah State's preseason exhib today, they beat Denver 86-76, Will Hornseth 13 pts/9reb, Connor Turnbull 8pts/5reb. Ace Reiser 3pts.
Drake played a closed scrimmage this morning vs Minnesota but no info has been made available.
UC-Irvine played an international exhibition vs Univ of Quebec today and won easily 101-70
Mississippi State was to play Florida State today but they cancelled because of a hurricane.
Wisconsin beat D2 UW-Parkside 94-71 Wisconsin plays future BU opponent Green Bay on Thursday.

Evansville plays Austin Peay at 4pm tomorrow (Sunday).

Xavier just beat Tennessee 86-70- several former MVC guys involved.
SIU transfer Rolyns Aligbe scored 5 pts, 7 reb for Xavier - Drake's Appelhans had 1 pt, Gabe Pozzato had 11
For Tennessee, former MVC player (Loyola) Miles Rubin started & had 6 pts & 1 rebound
Belmont's Tyler Lundblade who is now at Tennessee, is still struggling to come back from major back surgery and did not play.


Future Bradley opponent Green Bay just lost their exhibition to Wisconsin 96-77 -- BUT, this was a 1-point game with 11 min to go and from that point Green Bay was outscored 36-18. Green Bay's Marcus Hall had 19.

Sunday-
-DePaul at Loyola 1pm

-Northwestern at Illinois State 4pm - no TV but they have radio & LIVE STATS

-Indiana State at Butler 5:30pm - this game has radio & TV plus LIVE STATS
Indiana State has one guy in a walking boot, otherwise at full strength - and Butler is already 0-1 in exhibitions, having lost big time 96-68 to Indiana.

** Bears game is at noon, ALCS is 4pm

Malik Messina-Moore, whose eligibility is still being battled in the courts, did not start but is playing and has 4 pts, 3 reb
Demarion Burch started and is scoreless, missing his only shot, Illinois Wesleyan transfer Noah Cleveland started & has 5 pts/4 reb.

The difference was Northwestern was terrible at the FT line hitting just 47% and turned the ball over 20 times.

This is why no P-5 team will ever play a midmajor on the road and never play any solid midmajor in a regular season game.

Demarion Burch finished with 6 points on 1-5 shooting (0-3 from three), in 19 minutes of play. He had 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 steals, and 4 PFs.
For the record, Northwestern is not a very good team this year. They were picked 16th in the 18-team Big Ten official media poll-
