I wonder if it's that there are two spots guaranteed for the big 10, or if the big 10 is in agreement with Fox that they will send 2 teams.

How are the CBI and CIT doing? I don't hear much from them the last few seasons. This may be another one that fizzles eventually cause none of the bigger schools will want to play in it if they're not even willing to accept an invite to the NIT!
Best choice would be to make a tourney for strictly the Top 16 mid-major schools that don't make the NCAA tournament. Have the final 4 at a neutral site - like in St. Louis. I'd be into that.

All of the Power Conferences are in an agreement that the 2 teams not in the NCAA tournament with the best NET rank will get invited to this Las Vegas tournament. So I think that means 10 or 12 spots are guaranteed to the Big 10, Big 12, ACC, SEC, Big East, and Pac 12 (if they still exist).

I assume they are putting this together to be a better option for the bigger schools with the recent lack of interest in the NIT?

If they are turning down the NIT, I imagine they will turn down this as well. Unless Fox is forcing them to do it because of tv agreements they have with the conferences

All this is, is that the power conferences want to participate in a tournament, but not have to play on mid major courts. They want no part of that. They don't want to lose there, they don't want recruits to see them lose there, they don't want their own players seeing the great atmosphere available at a mid major. All of it.
Yes, I agree. It’s always about power and money. Somewhat related is news today that the WTA has agreed with Saudi Arabia to have the top paid women’s tennis tournament take place there over the next 3 years. Both Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert vehemently opposed this action, but money rules.
Yes. Some of the revenues from the tournament would be paid out to players in the form of NIL compensation.
That's going to be hard for the NIT to compete with.

Hard? RIP NIT. One of the call guys has been saying he thinks the NIT should move to Vegas. Looks like they were beat to the punch.
Honestly sounds like a great weekend. They should do it Arch Madness style. 4 rounds in 4 days. 10 of the P5 schools and 6 mid majors trying to shake it up. I actually absolutely love it. I would go 100% if our boys were in it.
I agree with making it similar to a conf tournament. It would make for a fun weekend.
Last year's (2023) NIT Final Four was played in Las Vegas at the Orleans Arena. The NIT now puts the hosting of the Final 4 up for bids, and they haven't done it yet for 2025 or later.

Event organizers are in the final negotiating stages with MGM Resorts International to hold games at any or all of its three major venues: T-Mobile Arena, MGM Grand Garden Arena and Michelob ULTRA Arena. The tentative schedule is to play games on Nov. 26, 27 and 29, with Thanksgiving an off-day. The 2024 format(s) for the eight teams has not been decided. Organizers are still weighing whether to have a single eight-team tournament bracket or two separate four-team multi-team events (MTEs).
The tournament would be unique in that the NIL collective of each participating school would be paid $1 million. Additional significant NIL opportunities (believed to be in the neighborhood of another $1 million) would be awarded exclusively to the winner or winners of the event, depending on the final bracket format(s). The money would then be distributed to athletes by the collectives. The athletes, while in Las Vegas, would be required to participate in multiple off-the-court activities to earn that NIL money. That quid pro quo agreement for NIL money is a key distinction and at the core of the appeal of the festival. Pay-for-play remains against NCAA rules. However, athletes can be paid for NIL work surrounding the actual games, which is the pitch here.
