SIU was 19-13 overall, and 11-9 in the MVC this season. They were 23-10, and 14-6 last year. Those are not usually the kind of numbers that get a coach fired. But SIU fired Barry Hinson after 4 straight winning seasons, so maybe they think they can do better.
This move seems to come as a surprise to a lot of SIU fans, so maybe there is more to the story.
SIU is the only MVC team with no 2024 recruits committed. But I wonder what someone like Kennard Davis might do. He picked SIU over Bradley. They also have a guard Sheridan Sharp who is redshirting. Bradley recruited and offered him, too.
This also surprises me. I think what kind of team they would have had if Domask and Jones had stayed
I would not mind getting Hensley for one year if he can play next season. He has impressed me for a bench guy that can do a lot of things on the court. I was surprised he did not play more at SIU.
I don't like him, and I would hate this. Would rather have Dana (assuming MoST lets him go)as a recruiter if we were recycling MVC coachesI like Mullins . . I would not mind letting him come over. He obviously can recruit and coach D.

I don’t know if they win the Valley, but the regularly winning around 20 games a year and getting fired is crazy to me. Guy certainly can coach D. I’d love to see him on our staff, personally.Tough to loose Domask and Jones, then fired the next year. I think he got a bogus deal. If they have those two back they probably win the valley.
Welcome to the NIL bullcrap.
The attached is the SIU announcement of firing Mullins. It sounds more like an announcement of extending him than firing him.

Bryan Mullins' assistants are his brother Brendan Mullins, Jerrance Howard, and a couple young guys Vince Fritz and Jevon Mamon. Jerrance Howard just joined the staff this season. Wonder where he will land, and was he brought in as a possible replacement?
It is likely that SIU won't be getting players from the Illinois Wolves program again soon (run by Mike Mullins, Bryan's father).
