Merfeld Fired

Both Evansville and Indiana State did fine in the non-con part of their schedule. As a BU fan, or Illinois State fan, that is all you can ask. Someone has to have a losing record in conference for BU to have a winning record.

I am a little surprised. Just last year he was extended through 2009, so this "resignation" likely included a nice buyout clause, and an agreement by Merfeld not to make any critical comments.

Just to remind people, Merfeld was one of the candidates interviewed by Bradley for the head coaching position in 2002. The records of all of those other candiates (most were up-and-coming, "can't miss" hot prospects) have been poor since then. It would be ridiculous for anyone to argue that Bradley would have been better off with any of the other 9 candidates compared to the correct choice they made.

Im already hearing that half of the Valley coaches will not return next year.
2 are already gone, 2 more will follow, and 1 will get hired away.

Tom Davis is rumored to retire, his son Keno would take over. I cant think of anyone else who would be fired unless its Porter but he has 3 years left on his deal and 80% of his team back.

Coach Tom Davis ponders his own retirement. Usually coaches don't talk like this unless it's going to happen--

And here is Greg Stewart's article from this morning--
http://www.pjstar.com/stories/030407/ISU_BCI2QN46.072.php

This is either a case of good reporting to break a story, or a case of rumor-mongering based on an unfounded rumor from an unidentified source. If the latter is true, since when were these kinds of stories acceptable to print?
